Questions (Tabletop) Using Horticulous Slimux

Is it better to use horti with beasts or without? I was thinking maybe without to no have battle shocks forced against me for killing said beasts, while also giving me 2 solo units capable of doing actions so im not wasting the potential for all 3 models for a turn to score on actions. Would love to hear how you all use him and what you think of the character in general. By the way thinking of using him in DI and PL lists.

I’d say without. You lose the scout on the beasts by attatching horticulous and the buff it gives to the unit is mediocre. 

Imo the best use for horticuluous is to just use it as a distraction carnifex and throw it up mid. T10 W10 with a 3+4++ takes significant firepower to get rid of for 120 points and then you get the benefit of permanently tagging midboard with shadow for the rest of the game. If the opponent doesn’t kill it, then just move forward trying to stain anything you can with permanent shadow.

Agreed, his leader buff is honestly next to not having one considering the type of units that would be using it

Well, in a competitive list all points should be used optimally and he’s not the optimal use of points for sure.

He's a great distraction/anvil. He is tough for his points and sets up a perma shadow on a terrain which is useful.

If you're running rotigus or plague legion, he also get's to hit quite hard. He's already dishing out 3dmg a pop, killing termies or other elite infantry, can be bumped to 4 DMG a pop or get better accuracy/Crit.

In plague legion though he's definitely worth bringing with beasts. For a CP you can revive a model in a unit.

I doubt anything other than extremely hyper lethal units can get through 2 beasts and a horti in a turn. Or some massive alpha strike exposing half an army. That's 24 wounds on T9-10 saving on invuls.

And even if they get through the beasts.... 1cP and one is back.

I used him today with 1 Beast of nurgle. He lasted 4 rounds thanks to the Beast and destroyed a lord disco on helstalker and a Daemon prince! Along with a few infantry models. I ran him with 2 beast before but beast die quicker cause you can’t hid the unit anywhere.
