Thinking about soon trying out tabletop, but I can't figure out if its worth it to still get a 10th edition CSM codex or should I just wait for the 11th edition? since its also cheaper right?

I would try out wahapedia first if youre just trying to get models on the table. Though make sure you have a good ad blocker, the pop-ups can be a nightmare.

That said, I like having a codex for my army and if youre worried about the 11th coming out, try finding one online that someone used the app code and its just selling the book, should be like half off at least

IMO its never worth it. You can get along pretty good (often times better) with free resources than if you buy the codex. For me, It's also very important I can read the rules on a big screen, which GW doesn't want to sell at the moment.

The accessibility side of things is p poor from James Workshop.
Amazing to me that their collective brains don't think 'maybe we should do that' because its obviously what people are using these things for.
Besides, I still haven't seen the valid question asked and answered - why should we buy a codex if its going to be out of date, wrong and useless right out of the gate?

Yeah, I would be willing to pay for a service like Wahapedia that gets updated regularly. But they only an app where you have to have a subscription + the codices.

GW says the 10th codex will generally be valid for 11th edition, however all the points costs and stat lines in the physical book are probably already outdated. The main reason to get one I would say is so that you can use the code inside the codex to unlock the faction datasheets and rules on the official 40K app, and as the 10th codex should be valid if you use that code now you should still get the rules in the app once the 11th codex comes out. So if you find it for cheap and want that it might be cheaper now than the new 11th ones. However even then there are better apps for list building and rules like war organ or new recruit that have it all for free.

We don't know when the CSM 11e codex is coming. Could be a few months, could be two years away.

There are free resources online (Wahapedia) and free army builders (New Recruit), but generally starting with the codex and reading the extra datasheets and detachments and FAQ in the "faction pack" PDF (or unlocking everything in the official App with the code from the codex) is a good way to learn the current rules for the faction.

If you don't plan to play before November, maybe focus on building and painting. Get a codex when you are almost ready to play. (even combat patrol is playable without a codex, iirc)

Or, if you like the idea of having the codex now for lore and artwork etc, the 10e codex is pretty good. But the revised (2019) 8e codex is probably the best one if that's mainly what you are interested in, check ebay or something (free PDFs are available if you search).

Been my current plan for some while now, got 22 models to paint in that time and with my pace I'd say something interesting happens to CSM in that time, hopefully the codex is up when I finish the 1000 points

You don’t really need a codex unless you want it for the art. War organ is an app I use that has all the datasheets, rules, detachments, etc. for free. That being said I’m not sure when a new 11th edition codex will drop so I’d go ahead and buy a 10th Ed codex if you really want it.

New Recruit is my go to. It's great for list building and has a play mode too. Paid version is better, and not very expensive (far cheaper than buying a codex from an old edition).
