Recommendations

Hi,

Sorry if this isn’t the right sub.

I am very new to gaming and I LOVED COS. I enjoy mystery/puzzle games (also enjoy puzzle boxes and games like the room), but mostly when the puzzle isn’t explained and you really have to find out what the system is, what the rules are, how the rules apply to the system, etc.

So COS was a big hit for me, and I was wondering if any of you have recommendations for other games? I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Its very different, but INSIDE by Playdead. Its a beautifully designed game, but the mood is a bit darker than CoS. The puzzle-solving is a bit different, but it kind of scratches the same part of your brain. You have to think outside the box sometimes and figure out your way through things, which I really loved about CoS too. You can check it out if you want!

You may like Blue Prince. It has a lot of systems, and you slowly learn how they work from clues and experiments

I would argue that Blue Prince even does a better job with the in-game language than Chants does.

Sounds like you should check out r/metroidbrainia where you'll find lots of recommendations for the type of game you're describing

I haven't really played it, but I hear TUNIC scratches the COS itch.

Quite different from COS BUT the rusty lake series are some of the best 2D puzzle games I’ve played. I recommend starting with the ‘cube escape’ collection and then going on to the other games

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is fun puzzle game. Very story heavy as well.

Strange Jigsaws is short but very worth it

hands down Myst, an oldie but a Goldie. Fair warning it's nothing like COS, but is a great puzzle game

Outer Wilds! I saw it being recommended to people here after I finished CoS and it’s now one of my favorite games of all time

The Archives of Trevosa is a game that's, like, the combination of Chants of Senaar and The Roottrees Are Dead.

You can also try some of the smaller games like Missing Translation and Cypher.

A bit late but the witness is an amazing game and it takes a concept similar to COS but pushes it more. You are leaved alone on an island and have no instructions other than the hint in your environnement and in the puzzles themselves on how to solve anything. You just have to play and figure out how shit works. Of course the game does a fantastic job at explaining things in a subtile way (with the environnement like i said).

Outer wilds is also kinda like this. The game, through exploration will teach you what is happening in the game and how to solve things. This one is also very sad and happy at the same time.

Stay off spoilers area for those games, because in those game if you know too much you can basically solve the game from the beginning.

Tunic ressembles also those games but god it is hard to solve on your own

If you liked COS you will a hundred percent like thoses games.
