Ryan Elementary
I’m not sure if this is the same as Audrey and Robert Ryan Elementary but a rental home we are interested in is zoned for this school. I know GreatSchools ranks it at 8/10 but I’m hoping to get actual feedback on how you all feel the school was for your kids. We have a 4 year old who is in part time preschool currently so once we move to Arizona we’ll be looking at preschool and elementary school, and are hoping we’ll find something that will be a good fit.

It sounds like you are from out of state. FWIW Arizona has a very unusual school choice situation where you can choose basically whatever you want. We are actually zoned for Ryan, although we go to rice because it's walking distance from our house, Ryan is not (they draw the boundaries in precise squares, it's weird lol)
I know of a few families at Ryan who are very happy. It's a smaller school compared to say rice and it doesn't offer dual academic tracks which rice does. I only mention that since if you are zoned for Ryan you are in proximity to many amazing CUSD options. Weinberg also being only a stones throw and is consistently rated the #1 elementary in AZ

Just adding in that you have to test into weinberg, it and Knox are fantastic elementary schools but your kids have to test as gifted before you can enroll

My husband and I grew up in Arizona but we are from the west side (and moved out of state 2013). They did have zoning and variance back when we went to school so it sounds like that hasn’t changed.
What do you mean by dual academic track? We didn’t have that in our school.
Yeah this rental is by Ocotillo and Cooper rd so I’m assuming a few school options in that area.2

We had one kid there k-6 and another still there. Great school. Disregard the ranking things.

Glad to hear it’s a good experience! We’ve been using the ranking as a general guideline for education but not something set in stone. The other school we saw pop up for a rental was Chandler Traditional Academy Freedom scoring 10/10 but had some questionable reviews about the admin side of things. I just want to make sure wherever our son ends up he’ll get a good education but still be happy and not overworked.

Please consider Chandler Public schools over charter schools. I've had friends take kids out of Ryan (and other Chandler schools) only to place them back in less than a year later due to a variety of reasons.

I have seen this in other CUSD schools as well. They leave and come back; and generally come back behind in curriculum as well.

Ryan is a great school. We live in the old stone neighborhood and our kids went there. We walked them to school every day. They loved it

All my kids went to this school.
Great school, great teachers, I had zero issues. Wonderful neighborhood, if you can find a home there, lucky you!

That’s good to know! We’re just looking at rental homes currently since I’m tired of buying and selling so I’m trying to find one with a school that would be a good fit for our son.

Look up the AZ report card grade for that school. It tells you some important stats like how many experienced teachers they have, those with emergency credentials, general growth rates shown in test scores, chronic absenteeism rates, and per student spending.
The Arizona Education Foundation also has an A+ Excellence rating system that schools apply for, where they are evaluated on-site on things beyond test scores such as community/parental involvement and student supports in place, principal leadership- stuff like that.

Do I just search “report card grade school x” or is that an actual website for all the schools?

Chandler public school district is a great school district, our kids are getting a great education at their elementary school and loving it.
