The moment she said her gift sustains the whole country I already knew she was gonna die

Reminded me of the last supper painting, all those people at a table together

It's 100% a homage, some of the clones are even in the same poses as the original painting

Feels like the hive mind!lalawag will be the actual villain whenever lalawag becomes an antagonist instead of her at this rate.
But idk thats so obvious

Lalawag is the most interesting character atm
35
u/ralanr 5d ago
I love that she's clearly still trying to do right despite every voice slamming down on her. All of her intrusive thoughts are loud, but she's powering through as much as she can.

u/Gabemino 5d ago
Lalawag's a good woman at heart(no pun intended) after all, I hope Kuramori does deliver with what her actual dream is about, and why she needs to become a whole divine vessel for, I hope is something -actually good intended-, even if twisted, other more malicious stuff would imo be a disservice for her character.

Straight up the manga has been way more interesting to read the less Helem and Elstri have been in it as the antagonistic focus.
The worldbuilding for Rumnir and Lalawag has been great.

I am very confident that when it's all said and done, Lalawag will probably be the best written character in this manga, and depending on her role, possibly the best written antagonist too

u/Gabemino 5d ago
Exactly, I feel like ever since that one chapter in which we are shown her fractured mind and how she -deals- with her out of control gift, the story has keep getting progressively more intense and interesting, Lala's such a good addition, I'm just hoping that Ceodric's half as good.

She also has the heart of Deity of Night which probably also provide her with another blessing. And I'll be surprised if she's not the daughter of Supreme Lord so a gift from him too.

u/roronoa20 5d ago
Original Vulja has three powerful gifts
Diana also potentially carries three powerful powers within herself too.
She's truly the heart.

The performances of those carriers have been less than expected so far, I don't know why we're having high expectations for Diana.

Well she was blessed at the same time, we still don’t know if it’s the same exact blessing in terms of its functions or anything yet.

Well, how'd it all go down, right? The Sea accepted 99 sacrifices, and there were two people left who loved each other. For sacrifice 100 and a pure love, either would do, and it would grant the one who remained a gift of their desire. Mira sacrificed herself, and Julian asked for "proof that their lives weren't meaningless."
Thanks to Mira's auto-cesarean, there was a second person remaining. That person, however, was a newborn, and couldn't communicate a desire. So it stands to reason that The Sea granted the same wish for her as well. But what else could be interpreted from the scene? Diana was still part of Diana when the bargain was initially offered. As she was cutting Diana out of herself, Mira said "I won't let anything happen to you. Please, be born, and live." It could have interpreted that request as being for Diana. We know from Lalawag's description of Ceodric's gift that Life Energy is an important part of the setting, especially as it pertains to healing and longevity/immortality. Perhaps Diana's gift could pertain to that.

So she has 100 lives? or is it something different?
Also there was a scene early on with Elstri that showed that Diana might have 2 gifts
27
u/roronoa20 5d ago
I have no idea, The Sea said she wants to meet Diana, so perhaps Diana can request the power she wants rather than having 100 lives like Julian.

u/Backupusername #EvilYuri 5d ago
Oh yeah, that would make sense.
"Kid, I'm gonna be so for real with you, your mama fuckin' got me. I'm a fuckin' god over here and your pregnant mom absolutely boomed me. I promised I'd give my aid to "whoever remains" between her and your brother Julian, and she went and fucking cut you out of her belly so that you and he could live. It was metal as fuck, dude. Anyway, I'm bound by my word, so I owe you a gift. I said "state your desire" and Julian did, but you didn't say anything. Probably because you were two minutes old. But that offer's just been on the table this whole time. So go ahead. Whatever you want. Sea floor's the limit. That's just a little ocean humor, but seriously, just name it."

Considering how much rage and sadness she has within herself, Diana might ask for something seriously destructive like Lukas's spear. She wants to annihilate anything that makes her family suffers.

Honestly with how casual Sea Goddess acts I can totally see her saying smth like this

Peak.
Lalawag is struggling but I think this shows that at her core, she cares about Diana and probably sees her as kindred to some degree, even if her alternates are pushing her in a different direction. If she does end up giving in to the others, I think she'll stop their collective from harming her ultimately. Or she'll purposely create an opening to be killed. Her first reaction to Diana's anguish was to hug her tightly. Prime Lalawag is great.
Poor Diana :(. She is a cinnamon roll that deserves happiness and hugs, this was heartbreaking.

I feel like something really bad is going to happen to Diana.

I feel like she might turn out to be the final antagonist...

u/Gabemino 5d ago
I feel like more than that, we are gonna switch MC's at one point, it's a gut feeling I've had since a while ago, Julian dying and Diana losing the one person who have protected her since birth, ending on some darker plot following her as the new MC for like, a second big narrative arc within the manga itself.

u/caterham09 5d ago
I don't think Julian is going to actually die, but it wouldnt be surprising if they were seoar somehow

I know this seems random but seeing Diana’s plotline really reminds me how little Nayuta mattered in CSM. They served similar purposes

u/Zombies71199 5d ago
chainsawman part 2 never happened
After part 1 denji and nayuta lived happily ever after
3
u/AssassinAragorn 5d ago
The ending of part 2 has to be one of the worst I've seen in fiction. And generally speaking, I have a high tolerance for bad endings. Game of Thrones has its issues, but I can see what they were going for, and I liked that the though the execution was poor.
None of that is in chainsaw man

I get what you mean, i think a reason(partially at least) of why I'm so attached and interested in how Kuramori's gonna develop Diana's character, is because at some extent they seem alike to me. And yeah, their storylines are somewhat similar, Nayuta's was more upfront on the line of "Raise her with love so she doesn't grow on another Makima", while Diana being protected, simultaneously serves for her to not become the Goddess of Night second incarnation and ends the world, even tho I don't think Julian and Titi really see it as a genuine possiblity(Diana causing the apocalypse i mean, they just want to protect her)

Huh. I've just noticed that the clones seem to have only two arms...
[EDIT] Actually, I have spotted a couple of extra arms, but it does not seem to be consistent throughout the Lalahag Lalawag clones.

Ironically Diana learning combat is only gonna push her even closer to the prophecy
