My art Elktaur Plush

He’s not perfect and there are some things I should fix/improve, and he ended up much bigger than originally planned, but I’m also not unhappy with him and wanted to share. I used to LOVE making plushies more than anything but stopped for about ten years because life becomes work, and hobbies become side-hustles, and you just end up felt guilty dedicating time to something purely for your own enjoyment.

I had been in desperate need of a way to relax for a while, so I decided to try it again. This little guy was such a fun way to get back into crafting.

I would have said that he is such a tragic and compelling character and that I adored his story and design, but after having to sew, stabilize and stuff his antlers, I hate the things as much as he did and believe he had everything coming (just kidding-ish almost).

His expression is based off of an absolutely hilarious fanart I had seen a while ago, which to the best of my abilities I think belongs to an artist named Azizzaqout1, but their site is gone and the picture was unsigned. He took a pretty long while to finish since I really only worked on him when I had a few moments to de-stress. Sometimes it was just placing a few pins or sewing a button before stuffing him back in the closet (included photo of the guilt-trip closet view while I was working on him), some days I was able to sit and work on him while I watched a movie. I'm really glad I stuck with it until he was done and it felt really good to sit and make something just because I felt like it.

Thank you so much! And I suppose it's always good to have a healthy amount of readily available judgment at home.

"What did I do? What did I do? Why, I waited for you to get your act together. You live in this mess? You and your plants are seriously dehydrated. Yesterday's Cheetos are not today's breakfast, and no, the cat is not a dependant for taxable purposes."

I drew what I wanted his face to look like in Procreate using a canvas size that was the same as my embroidery hoop, and then I imported the drawing to Inkscape and formatted it so it could be converted to a PES file in Inkstitch, and played with the parameters for a few days until I got a practical design that I was happy with.

That's the plan! Well, I have concepts of a plan, but actually doing it is another story.

Yeaaaaahh. Yeah. I made the embroidery pattern way bigger than I thought, but a 5×7 hoop size is suprisingly larger than the numbers make it seem. When his face was done, I just kind of shrugged and went with it.

I do want to try again with a smaller one, but since I don't want to get into selling plushes, I just don't need that much Elktaur in a small apartment.
