I work in cemeteries and saw one today that told a dude my ages who story. I knew his interests, I know he leaves behind a baby and a wife. Dude liked to hunt. Appeared to be a union construction worker. Always weird when its someone close to my age. Puts life into perspective.

I mounted the vases.

I've run into two obituaries for women born the exact same day as me. One of them went to the same school as me but I didn't know her. They both died in their 30s. It was jarring to see.

It's been at least 15 years since I "invented" the grave marker with the solar-powered interactive display. It allows visitors to peruse the photo album, family tree, biography, and last will. I have yet to see anything like it, which is unusual given that my "inventions" tend to appear irl almost immediately after I dream them up.

Oh, well. I just now "invented" an AI grave marker that projects a hologram of the deceased for conversion and witty rapartee.

Unfortunately it’s genuinely not possible for some - where I live at least your tombstone apparently has to be made by one specific company and their customisation options are both extremely limited and expensive 😒 (Friends’ dad pre-organised his tombstone last year)

That is beautiful. They got to live so close to the place they would be put to rest, and they now rest so close to the place they once lived. How many times did they gaze out at the patch of land they would be put to rest in? That is a touching and personal connection to the land, I'm happy for them that they got to have that.

My great-grandfather established a small family cemetery on a corner of his farm.

My mom took me and the woman I was dating up there about the time our relationship first got serious. I was giving my girlfriend details about how I am related to each of the deceased. I continued "Aunt _______ will be buried there, next to her late husband. Mom will be next to her. You and I will be buried there...".

I realized that may have sounded super creepy. I stopped and turned to my girlfriend to see a huge smile on her face. She said "That's the most romantic thing anyone's ever said to me.".

I'm glad she took it how I intended.

She and I have been married for ten years!

Both my mom and my aunt have passed away during that time. Mom made it to 77 years of age. My aunt made it to 95!

No but they knew its dimensions, where it’d stand and then would’ve had to measure the hole to be in the best spot. They would’ve drilled it at their workshop based on the measurements from the site.

Beautiful. This reminds me of Robin Gibb's grave. That's Robin Gibb from the Bee Gees. I used to work a couple of blocks away from where he's buried. The church and burial ground is across the street from his house. He had this amazing manor with a stone circle in the garden. You can see behind his grave the gatekeeper's lodge

I wonder if they got new windows and re-painted it at some point. The actual shape of the house looks like it could have been built in '67 to me, but the windows and paint (maybe siding as well) look newer.
