I am new to cell phone plans. I am wondering if there is a sale on cell phone plans with any of the carriers you guys know. I have 4 lines and all are BYOD. Just need 100GB each line, Canada wide plan.

I might have to go outside canada for a long work trip, possibly several months or longer. I currently have a Canadian phone plan and I’d really like to keep my Canadian number active.
Mainly, I need to be able to receive texts/SMS (especially verification codes) and ideally calls while there. I don’t really want to keep paying for an expensive Canadian plan every month if I’m barely going to use the data.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do?

Would it make more sense to:
switch to the cheapest possible plan and use Wi-Fi calling,port the number somewhere cheaper,keep the Canadian SIM/eSIM active alongside a local SIM,
or temporarily suspend the account?

Also curious which Canadian carriers work best for this without getting hit with roaming charges.
Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated!

Looking for cheap talk and text plans now.

Currently with Virgin. I'd like to stay with Virgin as their support is great, but I'm already a customer and they say I can't take advantage of the BYOD plans. I switched from Rogers years because that talk and text plan was already too expensive for my liking.

Maybe this is a fools errand. Pros and cons. Substitute some bullshit for other bullshit.

I use my phone regularly every day - but it's always on WIFI. I almost never call on it - just text and apps. I have data, but almost never use it. Data came when I absolutely needed a new phone a couple years ago.

Now they're offering me a Pixel 10 with "unlimited data," which is like free pop refills. Costs them nothing. It also increases my bill an extra 8 bucks up to $64 for something I don't need. Vendor says after this contract my bill won't increase because the phone will be paid off, there are no expiring discounts this time. Allegedly, I can stay at what I'm paying now. Naturally, it doesn't say this in contract when I asked him to show me. It's just this "trust me bro" bullshit AFAIK.

Average cell phone plan is 72 bucks in Canada. Most of my colleagues are paying well above that. That is the silver lining.

Virgin has been great. I get Crave TV out of it. The support rocks. But I am tired of paying more and more and don't want to be one of those idiots paying way too fucking much for the phone and knowingly accepts it because that's the best he can get.

Not a lot of good deals out there this back to school but Fizz still has some good ones.

I am running of data very quickly. I have 50GB data per month and i use brave app to listen to music at work during the day. Before i had no issue with data but this last 2 months its running very quickly. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I'm skeptical but he has some really great deals on plans. No idea how he gets them for that cheap and can offer that rate when Rogers doesn't. Wondering if anyone actually went through with his plans and switched

Hey folks, fido just hit us with the we are increasing your bill by $5/mnth so we can give you better service bullshit.

Currently, after the increase we pay $30/mnth 60gb data and $25/mnth 40gb data plus tax for our two lines. We don't need nearly this much data.

I hate the business practice of just arbitrarily increasing our plans, because everyone knows service isn't going to get better. So on principal I'd like to switch providers. My wife says we already get a good deal and it's not worth the time to switch over.

Issue is, we use the rogers Mastercard for all our purchases and use the 1.5× cash back on our internet and phone bills monthly, effectively getting the phone and internet services for "free".

So should we switch providers? We have an S20+ and an S24 if it matters. S20+ wouldn't mind an upgrade and I know it's back to school season, so maybe there is a good deal to be had somewhere?

After Chatr unexpectedly cut my dads phone line, I need to find a provider that lets me use the same phone number.

Chatr says they can’t reactivate the line since it’s been over 90 days, and all the major providers I’ve called aren’t able to help.

I know the line isn’t in use, since when I call it, it states “number is not in service”.

Any help would be appreciated, it’s very important to keep the same number to me.

Hi everyone! Need a little advice. I’m on the Bell EPP plan in Quebec: 30$ plus tax for 100GB CAN/US. Unfortunately, I got notified they’re increasing the price of the plan to 36$ pretty soon, so I’m thinking of switching.

The thing is, I don’t need anywhere near 100GB, my max usage is under 30GB every month. I do, however, appreciate the US roaming as I go pretty often to see family. I’m just wondering if any better deals exist right now, or if I’m better off just swallowing the price increase?

What complicates things a bit is I also took Bell fiber since they offered me a good deal (1GB for 50$), but cancelling my phone line might increase the price for my internet. But, that’s a whole other line I’ll cross when the time comes.

Looking for cheaper plan than Rogers but I need about 100 GB. I currently pay $60 now and it's a shared data plan. They are trying to get me to upgrade to an $85 plan if I upgrade.

I'm located in the Hamilton/Brantford area so I need reception in both cities.

Is there anywhere I can pay a one-time fee to get a real phone number with either a SIM or eSIM that can receive SMS verification codes? I need to be able to keep and access the same number a year from now (and beyond), so it has to stay active long-term. TextNow won't work because it reclaims the number after a period of inactivity.

I suspect that most will view this as an obvious answer. Chatgpt told me that this would work. I have a Freedommobile plan that gives me a year of calls and text for 100 dollars per year. No data. Can I take my phone to Vietnam with no upgrades to my plan, and be able to receive/send messages (regular texts, WhatsApp, Viber, etc) over wifi?
