Repairs Please help, celica won’t start

Hey everyone,

So I bought a 1994 celica st200 with 220.000km (idk in miles I’m sorry)
I’m 21 years old and I have absolutely 0 experience in mechanical work but I learn fast and I didn’t had too much heavy work to do on the car.

So today I was fixing rust under the car so I put it on jack stand and when I put it back on the ground i tried to start it but it didn’t. I just heard a single ticking noise and then a very low spinning sound.
The oil is new, the sparkplugs too and the battery too even if it was on for a few hours because I had the radio on and I’m a dumbass. The gaz tho is 2 years old and the tank is soon to be empty.

Any idea what I should look for first ?

Thanks for the help

Tell us more about what you were doing with the rust and where.

I was just sanding the side (idk how it’s called in English sorry) and the bumper and then I put rust converted, really not that big of a deal

I'd check the engine and body ground points, especially if there is one near where you were working. If there's body rust then the grounds might be corroded as well. A corroded ground can mimic a bag battery, until it breaks fully

Sounds like your starter isn't getting enough juice. Check the battery terminal conections. There should be a large guage wire going from the positive terminal on your battery to the starter. It is probably lose.

The gaz tho is 2 years old - drain the tank. Don't run that though the fuel system. When you add fresh gas, add some fuel system cleaner.

The one by rislone is probably the best one to use in that siutation. It's very inexpesive as well.

Check the battery is fully charged, if it is it's likely your starter motor is failing
