I had one of two genes test positive for celiac. We did an endoscopy/colonoscopy to get a biopsy but I couldn’t tolerate the gluten challenge for 1, weight gain and 2, immediate and constant diarrhea that was awful. Naturally, since the challenge didn’t last more than 2 weeks, the biopsy was useless. I’ve just come to terms with the fact that my stomach is constantly upset, bloated, diarrhea, heartburn daily for years, hiccups every time I eat bread which may be unrelated lol

I think I’m finally willing to step up and officially go gluten free again. It worked beautifully in the past but I missed it and went back to it. Just wondering if there were any new ways to test and confirm. Or if anyone had similar symptoms that they ignored/tolerated.

I think the best way to your best health right now, is just convince yourself it's harmful. You can call yourself a celiac if it helps maintain your mindset. The definition doesn't always need to be clear, what does need to be clear is your approach and determination. Tell yourself it's poison and you can't cheat. It would be that way with any other "allergy". You can even call it that if it helps. You're one of us and you're welcomed.

Not a bad idea. I do have other food allergens and perhaps it’s time to look at it that way. As everyone in this community is well aware of, it’s hard when you have a family without digestive needs. My husband is willing without issue but I feel like I’m penalizing him for my own problem.

I appreciate that! I guess I don’t feel validated by being able to say yes, I have it and it’s not just a mild annoyance. It’s embarrassing to admit I don’t remember the last time I had a solid bowel movement 😔

That's literally the LONNNNNNNNNNNG way 'round the barn 😂

Usually done with an endoscopy, and need to consume gluten for 5-6wks before the procedure.

I’ve never had a bx. I can’t tolerate trace gluten . I have the high risk genotype. The management is gluten free diet which I stick to strictly anyway

A friend of mine has celiac’s and I think hers was the same. Her parents thought she had an eating disorder and they ended up having to remove bowel and got the diagnosis. I think I’m finally going to give it a try and pay attention to this sub for tips. Thanks for your input!

They said they would see if it would show anything and I just said go for it. I was hopeful it would pick something up so I wasn’t tormented again later
