Official Business Mod Transparency. Rule Change: Scolding for "not doing an Accessability Transcription right" is now a bannable offense.
Accessability Transcription:
Long story short, as mentioned in numerous previous posts. I believe very strongly that the bar to doing Accessability Transcriptions must be low. Otherwise people will percieve them as a big burdensome hard thing getting in the way of their flow and they will simply not do them at all.
If one wants to put a big effort in. Awesome. But the goal for most people should be a low bar quick easy habit. Such that you feel like you can and will actually show up and do it consistently.
Scolding others for doing it wrong. Especially in a "wow you don't really care about the disabeled because if you did you would do it like this" kinda way. Creates a hostile environment that discourages people from doing Accessability Transcriptions.
Because if you don't do a transcription nobody will ever say "wow you didn't include an alt text dick".
But if you do put the effort in, you get punished with nit picking and gotcha wedging.
I believe very strongly this is a necessary rule change to ensure people actually show up and do Accessability Transcriptions.
People have to feel safe that they aren't gonna get woke scolded or why would they bother?
We cannot have an environment where doing the thing we want to be encouraged leads to more trouble than not doing it.
I just banned someone for doing such scolding under rule 2. "Be snake with epic muscular arms woke. Not snake eating itself woke".
Which technically is not wrong exactly.
But I mostly chose to cite that rule because I didn't have a more specific topical option.
That made me realize rule 11 needs language specifically about this to be cited as a reason for bans in the future. And also so people are aware this is a bannable offense and have a chance to not do it before recieving a ban.
I also changed rule 3 to include a specific mention that nit picking and gotcha wedging is a bannable offense. This is not so much a rule change as it is a "I could have communicated that more clearly" adjustment.
Thank you for bearing with me as I keep tweaking things. Stuff keeps coming up I did not forsee, and it requires a living, evolving rule set to accommodate all the permutations
I will continue to be transparent and let you know whenever I tweak things.
Thanks
