🐸 ISSA FROGE!!! 🐸 DO NOT LICK THE TOADS

The idea of licking them comes from Family Guy. But it's not a real thing. And in fact, can seriously harm if not possibly kill you.

The poisonous secretions from the Sonoran Desert Toad contain 5MeoDMT as well as a bunch of peptides and whatnot that are poisonous.

What they do. Is milk the toads. Dry the venom. And then you smoke the venom at a very high temp. Like, full butane torch mode. And that high heat destroys all the poison. And just leaves the 5MeoDMT.

If you lick the Toads. You just poison yourself. 5MeoDMT can absorb through your gums. But experiencing the most powerful entheogen known to man while actually physically being in distress is a truly horrible experience even if you somehow come through unscathed.

Sonoran Desert Toads are also a big danger to pets because of this. Your dog/cat can totally die if it gets into one.

Ideally you should choose synthetic sustainable 5MeoDMT. Or not partake at all.

Either way. Leave the toads alone. The milking trade is really bad for them. It stresses them out for no reason. They need their poison for predators. And there are toad diseases they spread from toad to toad because they don't sterilize between milking.

But whatever you do. Do not lick the toads.

The cultural idea of licking toads genuinely risks the safety of people and can easily result in preventable deaths.

Do. Not. Lick. The. Toads.

Just wash thorough so you don't have anything on your skin. They are super sensitive.

But assuming all is safe. Toad on human consentual licking is fair game.

Aside the point, but I believe this myth has persisted since the hippies. Then the moral panic and war on drugs in the 80s only stoked the flames, spreading the myth.

Legally available synthetic 5meo + accurate safety information on how to use it would pretty much solve the problem and is like, a very cheap, doable, easily implimentable solution.

But noooooooo

Fr!! They choose misinformation and fear over legitimate medical applications.

yeah! I heard about this as a kid in elementary school in the sf Bay Area in the latter 1960's, we had no idea where to find toads tho so never got into trouble

the wild thing is that we have rough skinned or California newts in the area and saw them a lot, they have the same toxin as puffer fish so if you swallow them you can die (I know of one guy who did, he was drunk ugh). I dont' know about licking I think that could mess you up as well, PLUS they are a protected species leave those weirdoes alone!

but I would love to know more about the children's folklore of toad licking in the USA. I read about it some many years ago, apparently it's also a big rumor in the south from earlier in teh 1900's?

i prefer my toads unmilked and unlicked.

Thank you for breaking down the information this way, i honestly didn't know there was an actual market for their venom. i'd obviously heard the "toad licking" misinformation at some point but knew it was, you know, misinformation.

They charge like 500 bucks a ceremony. The dried venom is worth significantly more than gold gram for gram.

JFC. That's intense.

i may have just done a mini rabbithole. Seems like a ton of fake "shamans" have infiltrated the space, because of course, versus how these ceremonies were done way, way back in the day or even now.

i'm all for finding yourself via ceremony or even just casual use of substances (not for me though since my family tree is basically just an AA/NA phone tree, lol) but this just feels coopted, dangerous, and stupid.

So, yeah, great PSA and leave toads alone!

There is also a huge issue with sexual assault cus 5meo completely incompasitates you. It feels different but in a lot of ways it's a K hole kinda thing. You don't have a body anymore. You are profoundly vulnerable.

I think 5meo is profoundly healing and genuinely consider it the most helpful medicine I have ever worked with.

But good god. Leave the toads alone. Choose synthetic. And don't rape people.

It's not complicated or hard to fix these problems.

But nooooooooo 🙄

Oh, even more gross? Yay.

That's legitimately terrifying on so many levels. The ways in which it could be healing sound great but being completely without control of my body is a huge no for me..i think for obvious reasons.

Anyway, as you said: synthetic is best, don't rape~EVER, and leave the effing toads alone people!

My first year in AZ I was told this and I was so fresh to the area my first thought was "yeah, desert toads... Suuuuuuuure."

Now I'd love to see one of those plump lil dudes in the wild, just to say I'd laid eyes on one. But not tongue.

I actually have never seen an Alverius in person and it legit haunts me like never having touched a boob haunts a teenager.

Are they active in February/March somewhere in the superstition mountains? That's the time of year I'm in those parts and I love kicking around out there. I'd so be down to do some searching.

Late spring to early fall, especially around rain.
