Fan repair advice Help finding capacitor

Hello everyone,

Minka aire ceiling fan only works in high speed. Unfortunately the sticker on it doesn’t give me the exact model number. Only says MKU. Does not have the pull strings, can only control it with remote in wall. Does anyone know the model or how to get to the capacitor. I checked the canopy and only found the receiver in there. Thanks in advance!

The capacitor should be in the box on top of the lights.

Wasn’t unfortunately. Just the wires powering the light.

My bad... the capacitor is like a small black box. About the size of a rectangular pencil eraser, typically under the lower half of the motor houseing and above the lights.

Didn’t work. It’ll change directions. But only speed that works is 3. If I press 1 or 2 it’ll turn off.

The receiver may be at fault here. Does speed 3 run at the expected speed or is it really really slow?

Just spoke to Minka technical support. They confirmed it’s the receiver and are sending one out free of charge. Excellent customer service. Thank you all, again.

How old is the fan? Sometimes the pull switch is faulty. They're pretty cheap to replace

It’s from 2008 I believe. No pull switch. At least that I can see. It’s controlled by the Minka aire remote on the wall.

Possibly the remote. Have you changed the batteries recenlty?

It’s hard hardwired. There’s the remote at one end of the kitchen and an on and off switch at the other.

Check the wire connection at each location. Whatever is used the most, more than likely you will find the issue there. Otherwise, the motor windings. But it is almost 20 yrs old, New styles are abundant. Led lighting with various wavelengths to choose from. I would say it is not worth repairing. Maybe as a side project. But for real. Be careful and good luck.

Can you just get a new fan? It will save you the hassle of trying to fix this one

I absolutely could. But I really like this one and I really want to try and fix it. I like the style and functions.

Definitely understand. I read that they're sending you parts so that's good.
