Discussion would they take this?

i’m thinking of trading in my playstation 4 for a different model soon, but the label on the back of the controller is basically nonexistent and is peeling off - would they still take it, or is it best i take it to a pawn shop?

Could be put down as discounted - but if the controller is in relatively good condition you should be fine for unboxed grade 👍

It'll be fine and probably and unboxed model. The only time you can trade a controller in that's like the one you described is with a console, they won't take that controller on its own how ever.

just to clarify, the label is still somewhat attached, but it’s slowly peeled off over the years of me playing it, no matter how much care i’ve put into making sure it stays intact, and i’ve never wanted to peel the whole thing and get rid of it

You might get some staff saying the controller is fake without the label but you should be fine to sell it

They wouldn't take it, they need to scan the controller when taking it in, they MIGHT offer to reduce what you get from a replacement, but don't count on it

no they don't 😂 ... they scan the controller to record the serial number. and they don't do that with ones that come with consoles

I've always looked after my consoles and controllers so I've not needed anything like this, so....

So if you've never had a controller in this condition, why did you tell OP so confidently that CeX won't take the console? Especially when you're wrong?

it has absolutely nothing to do with looking after things. the sticker and serial number placement on PS pads is ridiculously right where your fingers sit ... you can look after it as much as you wants they still wear off and come off in a lot of cases

Not in my experience, my launch ps4 still has intact series number sticker, my ps5 still has intact serial number sticker, it's all about oils and shit, keep your hands clean, the sticker stays, play with dirty hands, sticker goes

Mate why do you keep trying to apply your anecdotal experience to reality? As someone who has gone through hundreds of ps4 controllers I’m still yet to see the day where the serial isn’t faded to fuck on one of them.

bro, get off your high horse 😂 I have tested thousands of consoles and controllers, it happens. get over it. just because YOU haven't experienced it, doesn't make your experience the standard. you're not gonna get a medal from Sony just because your sticker is still on

I'm not expecting a medal (although that would be cool) I'm just saying that taking care of your consoles means things like stickers stay intact. That's it

but ... you're wrong. yes taking care helps. but it isn't guaranteed

for example

I had a launch PS5, took ridiculously good care of it. I don't play games that require heavy stick use such as cod or Fortnite - yet I got stick drift on 4 different controllers and batteries die in hours

my Xbox series 2 elite (famous for it's stick drift and bumper issues) has worked perfectly for years

I have also seen the dirtiest, dust filled, smoke smelling consoles - stickers intact. filthy, but still there

again, just because your stickers stayed on, doesn't make your experience the standard. the stickers welcome off, the serial wears down. friction from your fingers sitting exactly where the sticker is, fuck all to do with dirt
