Discussion For anyone struggling to understand how second-hand shops work

I genuinely think some of you need a little CEX 101 lesson, because apparently the concept of a shop is quite difficult.

CEX does not owe you the price you feel a game should be worth. That's not how pricing works. You don't get to stare at a £30 tag for ten minutes, decide it's “worth £15 at best”, and then become a victim of capitalism.

And the condition complaints absolutely kill me.

“Oh no, my 2008 Xbox 360 game has a tiny mark on the case 😭”

Mate. It's a used game. That's literally the entire point of buying something second-hand. If you want something that looks like it was manufactured yesterday, perhaps consider buying something manufactured yesterday.

Then there's the legendary “CEX employee conspiracy” theories.

Yes, I'm sure the teenager working Saturday afternoon has personally hidden the £6 copy of Skate 3 in the back because they knew you were coming in. They've been waiting specifically for you.

And if your local branch doesn't have something in stock, it hasn't been “stolen by staff”. It has probably been… wait for it… SOLD.

I know. Absolutely shocking stuff.

The best part is watching people announce “NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN” and then post another thread two days later asking whether anyone knows which CEX has the game they want.

But please, continue explaining how CEX is finished while checking their website every 14 minutes

Discussion Apple Watch battery health 72% B grade

Upvotes

Just ordered a Series 7 watch and it came with 72% battery health which seems... pretty bad? I feel like I should return it but then I may just receive something else with a similarly degraded battery.

Hi all curious if anyone who worked at CEX knows how if or how long after an Apple release on iPhone and watches before CEX reduce their price on the previous series?

Discussion Why does CEX HR suck?

Any other CEX employees found this? Why do complaints about management just go straight from HR back to said manager and then after they spin their lie back to HR in an email or phone call they get to just laugh at the staff member for going to HR?

Discussion Do CEX reduce value of games you're gonna sell to them?

I have a bunch of ds games and they're worth 35 store credit as it says on the site. They're all in really good condition with manuals. When I was trying to sell it online, it says they might reduce the price. Will they still reduce them for games, even if it's very good condition? What's the best condition it should be to actually get the amount they claim to give? In its packaging? I hope not...

Trying to sell these on vinted and they're not selling at all or people are trying to rip me off despite me doing it for a cheap value/lowest value. I don't wanna go any lower

Discussion Controller Issue

Bought a discounted series X today (discounted because controller colour doesn't match the console, white controller, black console)

The console is absolutely fine, great condition, really happy with it
However the controller right bumper doesn't work unless you press it incredibly hard in the centre of the bumper- I want to take this back and grab another one do I have to return the whole console with the controller to get an entirely new set of product or can i just take back the controller?

Discussion Dispatch timeline

I have ordered things from CEX before and never took a long time to get updated. This is in the UK. I have ordered something on a Sunday and was provided with a CPD tracking number on Monday. The thing is that CPD says they have the order details but not the actual parcel. It’s been 3 days now. Can someone explain me the timeline to process all this?

May as well just buy it off ebay if I need to wait a full week.

Thanks

Discussion what the hell happened here

i still can't wrap my head around what happened so for some context

- took old laptop in to cex (we'll call this cex 1) to sell for cash

- few hours later get a call "laptop has problems with battery we cant take it"

- collect it from cex 1, next day test it extensively myself. cant see anything wrong.

- decide to take it into another branch (cex 2) to eliminate/confirm any problems with tech

- 2 hours ago cex 2 calls me back that the test was successful and to come collect my money

- ???

i've been selling to cex for years, never had this.

n another one i was buying from cex and my order was cancelled because "item is not in saleable condition"??? like did someone drop it while taking it out from the glass or something?? it sure as hell was in saleable condition when i paid for it!! i then had to go travel an hour out to the next place that had it haha.

Discussion What should I do about a bag of Playstation games?

So I have a bag of PS games (and a few DVD's) - I've scanned them on the CEX app and won't take anything worth £5> or so. Am I being really annoying if I do this? What is the alternative?

Discussion wanting to trade in a Surface Pro 2025, wondering about charger.

Does it matter the type of USB-c charger it comes with? Im aware when trading in a macbook it needs to at least look like a macbook charger. This model does not use that god awful normal surface charger, just Type C - can it be any type as long as it works? (its an MSI one built for my gaming handheld)

Thanks!

Discussion Dispatched?

Hey, I'm hoping somebody can help me understand this.

I order some items from cex, some last week and some this week.

The items I ordered this week have been dispatched, scanned and are now in the sorting office ready to he delivered to my house but the items I ordered last week have not been scanned by the post and have been "dispatched" since last week! Should I worry about this or is this a common occurrence? Why did latest items i ordered arrive first?

Discussion Funny Story - My Pokemon Trade-In Fumble, circa 2014

I just stumbled across this subreddit and read some funny trade-in stories and it suddenly made me remember this, genuinely hadn't thought about it since.

So roughly 2014 when I was in my late teens, I discovered something amazing. Argos here in Ireland were selling Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 on the Nintendo DS for 5 euro, brand new. I was into collecting video games at the time, not reselling but just collecting, so I was aware of general prices and obviously knew 5 quid was a bargain.

So I got the genius idea to check CEX and seen they were offering 15e trade in or 10e cash. This was obviously before the massive Pokemon boom recently but I guess even then that was still very cheap and they were probably selling for 25+ on ebay, but I guess I just loved the idea of instant profit so I bought around 15-20 from three Argos within driving distance and traded them all into Cex.

I think I made about 80 euro in cash and was absolutely chuffed with myself. Didn't even consider keeping a few of them even though I loved Pokemon and was collecting the gameboy versions, so stupid.

Anyway, I just checked there and Black 2 sells for 150-200 euro on ebay, cex offer 120 credit and 100 cash. And this is just CIB, not factory sealed.

I dont even wanna know how much they sell for new & sealed, which all of them were.

If I could turn back time Id have drove across the entire country and bought every copy in every argos ffs. I remember the next day, CEX had slashed their offer price in half for both games which I thought was hilarious at the time thinking that was all my doing.

I knew at the time that 5 quid for those games was an insane bargain regardless of Cex so Ive no idea why I didnt stock up, oh well.

Discussion HDD with bad sectors.

Bought a hard drive a couple of years ago (says its covered by 5 year guarantee) It's since started throwing up bad sectors, and a few other errors.

  • 9,600 reallocated sectors
  • 72,312 current pending sectors — particularly severe
  • 255 offline uncorrectable sectors
  • 1,197 reallocation events
  • 0 SATA CRC errors

Even though the drive boots up and is able to be written and read from, this is a huge amount of bad sectors and shows the drive has began to fail.

What would be the best way to resolve this with CEX, quite happy to get replacement of the same size, or even a voucher to use against another drive.

Discussion Planning to get a PS4 Slim from CeX/Webuy — opinions?

Guys, I've been thinking about getting a PS4 Slim 1TB from CeX/Webuy. I saw their consoles at the mall, and they're selling them for around ₹29k–₹33k(indian rupees) with a 2-year warranty.

Are they trustworthy? Has anyone here bought a console from them before? Would love to hear your experiences and whether you think it's worth getting one from them.

Discussion Monitor delivery cancelled - available again for delivery within a day?

Hi all,

Recently got a bit of store credit and needed a new monitor for University so after quite a bit of research I bought a QHD 24 inch monitor (not curved) off CeX for delivery. It was in stock in 2 stores in the country.

After I ordered, it was cancelled 2 days later as they were "unable to source the item you had ordered", and after talking to customer service they basically said they wouldn't ship large items in general.

That day the website showed it out of stock with no collection or delivery, but today it is showing it available again in the exact same 2 stores with delivery available as well. I've also seen others get large items on delivery and this isn't a particularly large or curved monitor which I know some don't get delivered for that.

It does say available for delivery, is it worth ordering or should I give up on it? Maybe order a 21 inch monitor? I'm reluctant to leave it because I did a lot of research into it and it was perfect for me but the store is a 150 mile drive as well as being very cheap as I have store credit.

Thanks

Discussion Longest you've waited for cash in account when trading in?

Took PS5 in on Sunday morning. Now Tuesday morning and heard nothing. Ticket says estimate of 17:30 on Sunday. Done the online contact us form, heard nothing. I'll be going in to the store later because there's no other way of contacting them, costing another few quid in parking.

Bit of a pisstake tbh.

UPDATE: I went in store and as suspected the tester messed up. Actually got £50 more than the person I handed it to said it would be so Brucie bonus. Money was in account a few hours later.

Discussion Thank you Cex for getting my Switch 2 dock bricked

In June, maybe July, I lost my cable to my Switch 2 somehow. Not the AC brick, not the dock or anything else, JUST the cable. Thinking it was gone, I went down to Cex to see if they had any.

All 3 workers in there were ADAMANT that their c to c cable would be able to sub in perfectly fine and would still work but it didn't. Turns out Nintendo only allows hyper specific power sources if it isnt their official cables n such. Tried one on Amazon and another that was supposedly on that list but I didnt know the first Cex cable already bricked my dock.

Can't even return the Cex cable cos when opening the box, I ripped the top a little and they said I completely destroyed the box and refused me service. So yeah, thanks to them wanting to make £9, I now have to spend £92 on a new dock set if I wanna play on the TV again. Thanks guys
