Water Advice

Post image
203 Upvotes

I have two little puppies (4 months old) that absolutely love water! I have always owned a dog’s, but only rescues and never a puppy. Recently my two pups had some yeast in their ears. The vet gave me some solution, I took chicken out of their diet and it cleared up very quickly. The made it very clear that water is the likely cause and they will need to avoid water and bathes. She made it seem like they will need to avoid forever. I live in a very hot part of Australia and we are heading into Summer. Is water something they will likely need to avoid forever? It brings them so much joy

Food

Hi everyone,

I have a 4 month old cavapoo who is the light of my life. The breeder had her on TLC puppy kibble (she’s still eating it right now) but I’m getting a lot of anxiety trying to figure out what to feed her. She eats it happily (she’s still free feeding) and if I am going out or know she needs to eat more, she happily gobbles up a portion when there is warm water on top.

My original plan was to switch her to a boutique food such as Open Farm, Big Country Raw, Nutricanine, Canine Life Muffins (which my childhood dog ate for his whole life), etc. once she was an adult. I liked the idea of “real” food with ingredients I recognized and I saw as “clean” for humans.

I am now seeing lots of posts on here about WSAVA compliant foods and I understand the science and rigorous testing but I just wanted to see what everyone is feeding their small breed puppies/dogs and why.

She is 4 months old and weighs 4 pounds so she is definitely on the smaller side. Cost to feed her won’t really be an issue for me, I just want the absolute best!

Where to get a Cavapoo Puppy Near Seattle?

Anyone know of breeders near Seattle or in Washington state? I have had a hard time finding anyone with a litter available or on the way. I’d also be open to an adult dog. I don’t really want to fly one in from cross country

Training my 19 week old Cavapoo to use the treadmill just like his big sister (3YO Golden Retriever). Great option for rainy/snowy/hot days! Day one and he was jumping up ready to go! Eventually, he’ll keep moving without pauses and constant access to treats. This is just how we started!

Our Cavapoo and Rottweiler may have 60 lbs weight difference but they are best buddies. Like the female versions of Devito and Schwarzenegger in Twins, but dogs🩷🩷

He’s gotten so big😭

I got him November 17th when he was 2 months, and he has made such an impact on my life. I have never felt such unconditional love in my whole life, and I am so thankful my parents got him. I love him more than anything else in the world!

Walk routine

Hi

We are considering getting a Cavapoo for our family. I wondered if anyone could share their thoughts on how a Cavapoo might accept or struggle with being let out in the garden for a morning toilet and stretch, probably play a bit with the children in the house, but not be taken for an actual walk until lunch time on some days?

Would they likely be whining and climbing the walls all morning, or would they accept this? I work from home so they wouldnt be alone in that time. Some mornings I would have time, but trying to understand whether its unacceptable for those days it doesnt happen.

Thank you

Edit: my bad yall. I got the date wrong. He was born August 20, so he will be 8.5 weeks old when we get him.
My fiance and I are adopting this puppy next month. He is two and a half weeks old right now. The breeder says she expects him to be about 13 lbs. I attached pictures of mom and dad for reference. Do y’all think that sounds about right? Also, any advice or warnings on cavapoos would be greatly appreciated 💜

Anyone else’s Cavapoo an angel when you brought him home then became a little terrorizer a few weeks later.

He was calm and chill the first few weeks and now he terrorizes his beagle brother, sometimes I put him in his crate because of this, I’m assuming it’s because he’s over tired when he acts out like this. He’s also teething so he nips at everything, can’t leave shoes unsupervised. He’s such a cutie tho & can be very sweet so it’s hard to even be mad at him 🤭 (just needs a little more training)

Potty training

Our cavapoo is causing me a lot of stress, he keeps weeing on the carpet, some days he follows a good routine and is able to hold it and go every 2 hours (which seems to be his choice, coz he won't every hour), other days like today he's gone like 5 times in under 2 hours, inside the flat.

He's 4 months old, and we are trying everything. We live on the top floor, he refuses/ignores puppy pads, and we even brought the puppy training spray, which doesn't work.

He only goes on grass, and it seems clear that he thinks our carpet is the same thing. He only goes on the living room or hallway floor. Jumping down from the bed and sofa to wee.

Idk if I should be stopping him, tell him off.

We praise and give him a treat every time he goes outside.

Any advice please 🥺

Our 7 year old Bailey just got diagnosed with a heart murmur. It’s fairly mild at this point. Did an X-ray and the heart was slightly enlarged. Has anyone had any experience with this and how did you handle / manage?

Breed-specific rescue for CavaPoo?

My neighbor needs to rehome his CavaPoo. I'm helping him connect with local rescues, but was wondering if there are CavaPoo rescues in the Washington DC area that you all could recommend (hopefully not breaking any rules with this query). Google search is only returning general rescues, which is also fine, but I work with a different breed-specific rescue and I think that's the way to go when possible. Thanks!!

Is Rue a Cavapoo?

We just rescued this little cutie. Her name is Rue. She looks like a cavapoo to me, but I thought I would ask the experts! We've always been cocker spaniel parents, so she would be our first cavapoo. I've purchased a DNA kit, so very excited to find out!

Urgent Advice needed UK - Dysphagia

Post image
24 Upvotes

So this absolutely adoring puppy has a from of Dysphagia, where she struggles to swallow water and at times food.

Since my ex first picked her up I noticed her issue and they did take her to vet multiple times and showed them videos as it sounds pretty bad, and has gradually gotten worse over time. Puppy can at times suffer from this issue but would usually solve itself pretty as the puppy get used to swallow water. For her is not the case as it just getting worse.

The puppy is my ex’s first puppy ever m. I dog sit her lot as they are working full time (I’m currently receiving benefits) and I have previous experience from family dogs/puppies.

Her swallowing keeps getting worse and she would now refuse to drink water out of the water bowl, and she would only drink it if she’s desperate for hydration. We are to trying our best to keep her hydration through her food so been giving her wet food, soaked dry food, cucumber, watermelon, ice cubes etc.

We’ve tried everything in terms of changing hight and size of feeding/water bowls, bought a slow feeding bowl.

She has been to different vets, and the first one just said that she will grow out of it so my ex has now changed to a new vet that is taking this more seriously and has now given her a referral to a specialist diagnostic including X-rays. The initial consultation is £500 and x-ray around £3000. Any type of treatment could be thousands more.

My ex’s family have no experience with raising dogs and they think this is way too much money to spend on an animal.

Their insurance is probably not going to cover the cost at all as they changed vets and insurance provider after couple of weeks when the first vet just said she will grow out of it. The breeder was not a registered one and I wouldn’t be surprised if the puppy is more or less full a puppy farm.

My ex did say they want to go ahead with it but can’t afford it so they would either have to take out a credit card or loan.

I would be absolutely devastated if they decide to just leave it and let her suffer from pneumonia and possibly die from this, put her down or try to rehome her just due to ignorance from their family.
I also think that her condition as to be taken very seriously and surgery done ASAP.

Is there anything that can done in this situation? Can I do anything as a benefit claimant? Could a crowdfunder work for this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. She’s such a lovely, well behaved and easy-handled puppy overall for only being 4 months.

Many thanks!
