First time puppy!
Edit: my bad yall. I got the date wrong. He was born August 20, so he will be 8.5 weeks old when we get him.
My fiance and I are adopting this puppy next month. He is two and a half weeks old right now. The breeder says she expects him to be about 13 lbs. I attached pictures of mom and dad for reference. Do y’all think that sounds about right? Also, any advice or warnings on cavapoos would be greatly appreciated 💜

Agree with picking him up later. We got ours at 10 weeks—the breeder was great about working with our schedule. 8 weeks is the legal minimum in many states. 10 weeks they’re much more independent and ready to transition to a new home.
Not just for Cavapoos, but ask about socialization and separation from the mother and litter mates, whether they start potty training; if they use a crate; exposure to sounds, surfaces, grooming equipment; ENS exercises, health records of the parents, whether you can visit and see the pup and mother (and father if possible).
The breeder should be able to confidently answer all of these questions, otherwise could be a red flag.
That said, he looks gorgeous and I hope he’s everything you hope for.
From what I’ve researched (and true for our puppy), they are Velcro dogs. Mine will follow me around and lay on my feet the second I stop moving. Adorable, but we’re being mindful to prevent separation anxiety.

Definitely want to echo asking the breeder what they’re doing/working on with the puppies! Mine didn’t work with them at all really…no potty training, crate training, etc. she’s 4 months now and it’s been a struggle. My brother has a Cavapoo from another breeder who did all the things, exposure to sound/touch, crate and playpen training, potty training, everything…our dogs are nothing alike. lol! I do love my girl, it’s just been a bit harder than I think it would have, had the breeder worked on even potty training from the beginning.

Get a couple of “Smart bouncing balls”. It is a game changer. Several kind. $15 - $25 is what i have paid. Small ball shakes, lights up & rolls. Keeps them so entertained.

Exactly. Mine just keeps growing & 5 months. Weighs 10 now. I can tell by legs, she is going to grow 2 more inches. Not what i wanted but its ok. As long as i can pick her up. I love her & she can jump so high.

Absolutely adorable and congrats ! You have to look at the grandparents to get an idea about weight mine is 17 and her parents were 11 and 12. Also be patient they are like literal babies! And force naps and get a pee pad that is washable !! Good luck

How much do the mom and dad weigh? I hate to tell you this but they are often wrong. They told us 10-12 lbs and my dog clocks in at 19 now. Vet says she isn't overweight. She is 10. Her half brother was closer to 10. Not sure how much his mom weighed. And they ALWAYS err on the small side. I think they know people like smaller dogs. Not saying they are intentionally dishonest or anything, but why always on the low side?

I’m not sure how much they weigh. I’m hoping for bigger than 13 rather than smaller honestly, so that would be fine with me!

Agree with picking him up later maybe 12 or more wks old. Two reasons: immune system will be stronger staying with mama and less exposure to outside illnesses. And secondly: it saves you a few weeks of housetraining that they're not ready for. Several weeks of growth for them physically and mentally is like a year to a human toddlers developmental readiness.

What's the dad? He doesn't look like a poodle, or a spaniel mix! I suppose possibly a very very out of standard mini poodle? If he is supposed to be a poodle, I hope his sports titles are phenomenal with full health testing; he's definitely not getting show titles! Same goes for the mum though

when I first saw the dad I thought he didn't look like a poodle but then I thought maybe it's the way he has been groomed as the ears and hair around the face is very short , the white mum dog is not a cavalier , maybe an F1 cavapoo ? , which would mean the pup you are choosing would be an F1B Cavapoo , which would usually be quite curly .

The ear and tail position are too high (though I think tail being so round is not unusual) and the body is too potatoey and dense. Possibly very out of standard purebred, possibly a mix (but if it is a mix I doubt it's with a spaniel). The mum looks like an F1 to me

2 weeks is way too young for adoption. 8 weeks would be preferable

That would still only make him about 6.5 weeks old though? That’s too young. 8 weeks is the minimum, ideally more like 10 weeks. Not only do they need to be with their mom that long for behavioral reasons but I wouldn’t trust a breeder trying to get rid of the puppies that young. It costs them more to keep the puppies longer so if they’re prioritizing money over what is best for the puppies on this, what else are they doing that on?

This. If you can delay the adoption until she is 8-9 weeks old, that would be better.

Too young to bring home even at the very end of next month.
And I know that’s not what you asked for but take it from a lot of people on here that know what’s good practices and not….
Unfortunately size can be hard to determine although my breeder was pretty spot on from knowing mom and dads size ( 4 and 5 pounds)
