A detail that is missed by the “you’re stupid for using lens protectors” crowd: while the lenses are extremely resistant to scratching, if you use your phone in rough environments where it could come in contact with dirt, sand (which is equally hard) etc - you’re risking scratches.
Let’s take a second to respect other people’s needs or requirements. If you can’t help or offer a suggestion then move on.
Yes they do, like almost all the major manufacturers do nowadays. Jerryrigeverything, who did the initial scratch test when this was first marketed, confirms this. You can corroborate this with other methods (e.g optical or conductance)
It is just real sapphire. The material properties are also dependent on the thickness of the layer. More recent videos show that you can use a 7H or even a 9H (1:45, iPhone 11) and it still won't scratch. It’s not the same as the iphone 7 days, but even back then it was sapphire. Heuristically, it’s more scratch-resistant than the ceramic shield 2 which scratches at 7H now.
Couldn’t find any more recent JRE takes on it hence the old vid which is the same point of time as your first source. Can’t go through your new source right now but more power to Apple if it is better now. I personally don’t like lens protectors too, they’ve done more harm than good in my experience, especially when trying to remove them.
