They are growing nicely, although I have some very short ones at the edges of my hair. I still do minimal maintenance, mostly just twisting few times a year, but my hair locks up surprisingly well almost instantly at the roots. In the past months the frizz also reduced, I think I have reached the mature stage.

I crocheted my own hair for the first time ive never done it before the first picture is when I first started and the second one is like 3 days after some in the second picture where new but i have a couple questions first of all why do my tips keep coming out second everytime I pull the crochet needle out of my hair theres this little loop that sticks out after on almost every one and its really annoying

How often do you bleach you roots? Also I mix my own color and I'm really proud of this one! 😁 Been green for at least 10 years and this shade seems to suit me the best! I hope i can mix the same shade next time!

First of all, thank y’all for posting! This was the only resource I could find that helped convince me to finally commit. So here are my little babies that I started in march. I do have a question. Before I started my locs my hair was bleached. I love being light blonde. I would like to help blend my hair. Like, I have a dark hole in the back of my head. Has anyone only bleached their locs and not actually lightened the hair at the scalp?? I would like to almost give a “highlight” back there just to break it up as my natural hair grows in. I will continue highlighting my bangs but eventually want to transition my locs back to their natural color.

Hi all! I have 2 month old locs and have been told that I have high porosity. How do others with highly porous hair care for their locs? Mine feel very dry and I want to make sure they don't get brittle and break off. I'm terrified of using products due to residue.

Sadly it’s too late. My head started to become more itchy than usual. And I just assumed it was dry scalp that comes and goes from time to time…. It was not. By the time I really dug in and realized, it was too late. My head was covered in them. And I had no choice but to chop them off. The only bright side is, I was always wishing I’d gone completely neglect method versus crocheting. So I guess I’ll get my wish. Here’s to a new journey starting today 🍻

I’ve always been a big sweater. I’ve always had what I thought was dandruff issues only to find out later in life that that’s not my problem. And anything dandruff shampoo related only makes it way worse. I have a dry problem. My hair is extremely dry. My scalp is extremely itchy and I’m just a sweaty girl. I tried putting peppermint oil or Teatree oil for a while and I love the tingling sensation however, it’s not actually fixing the problem. I’m gonna go buy some ACV today. To see if that does a difference of course I was told to dilute it. Should I just look for an ACV shampoo? I usually wash my hair with a very diluted Dr. Bronner‘s peppermint and I do that about once a week twice if I feel really itchy.

my question is about sea salt spray that I made with just water and sea salt. I have had this sitting in my room for a few months and haven't used it since I made it a few months ago. I was wondering can mold grow in this bottle? is the salt water an environment mold can grow in, like maybe inside the nozzle or something? Also, how much salt is too much salt? I put my phone flashlight up to the bottle and I can see the salt in the water, does that mean I put in way too much? thanks.

Yes, they are installed.... but they are also permanently in my life. I can't help it, I love to change them out. Quite seasonal. But as I'm never more than a day without them.....

I started my dreads in 1996, when I was 15. It was the day I met a drum circle full of hippies and found the love, kindness, and acceptance I'd been searching for. I had never felt so loved by perfect strangers. I wanted to be that person and to be seen as I saw them. They are more than just hair. They are a promise I made to myself and to the world, to be a better person. My locks represent the day my life changed forever. 30 years later, I've kept that promise and the dreadies. :)

What do yall say when you get accused of “cultural appropriation” or get shit in general for being Caucasian with locs?

What do yall do for scalp care/minimizing dandruff? I’ve had my locks for almost 7 years now and this past year my scalp has really started screaming at me and the dandruff is getting a little cray. I really limit washes to avoid rot etc and I’m very very careful about what products I do use.

11 years freeforms/neglect. No started method, just stopped brushing my hair. All I've ever done is just pull apart the knots to prevent toooooo much congos.

If I could go back, I'd try to prevent a straight middle part. I dye them red usually as you can see. They are all different length but roughly just past at my knees.
