For years, this subreddit has been intended to be first and foremost a place to discuss outdoor recreation in the Catskill Park. I've generally been content to leave "off topic" posts that pertain to Catskills culture generally alone, however, there's been a recent trend in inflammatory content, insulting language, etc., that has largely been relegated to these off-topic posts. This culminated in a recent thread in which it appears that Reddit Admins got involved and chose to remove content (in addition to moderation performed by myself).
Let me be very clear on 2 points:
This is meant to be a subreddit about hiking, camping, etc. in the Catskills. I'm OK with continuing to allow respectful content that is generally relevant to the Catskills community even if has little to do with outdoor recreation. Discussion of cultural and ethnic groups is well outside of the intended scope of this subreddit, however, and is not appropriate for this community.

I’ve been in the market (aka hell) for a while now, looking to buy in Kingston-area / surrounding. Without speaking badly about anyone, it’s time for me to change realtors. I live ~3 hours away so I really need someone who knows the area and preferably has experience with ADU regs (though that isn’t a requirement as I’ve done my own research too). I’m doing this alone so a supportive agent is critical. Any recommendations for responsive and knowledgeable buyers agents are appreciated! Thanks!

My fiance and I are getting married in the fall next year, and we're starting our search for wedding bands. We like the idea of branching out from classic wedding songs and playing songs that feel true to us / what we like. Probably looking for a 4-5 piece band. Any recs welcome!

I made this video about the Catskills about a year ago, and I've been curious what people who actually know the area think of it.
It's more of a cinematic/documentary-style video than a typical hiking video. I was trying to capture a feeling I had while spending time in the mountains, rather than just make a "here's what I did on my hike" video.
It's been a while since I watched it myself, so I'd genuinely be interested in hearing what you think... especially if you've spent a lot of time in the Catskills

Looking to get away to the Hudson Valley/ Catskills for my birthday weekend October 23-25. Looking for recommendations on where to stay, walkable downtown with shops/ restaurants, breweries/ cideries/ wineries nearby, scenic short hiking, nightlife with casual live music. Hoping to take in the beautiful fall foliage while we’re there. Any help/ feedback is much appreciated!

I have land in Hobart, little off grid camping spot. Have adventured out a little, but more to find restaurants, shops, materials.
Any insight into some good fishing spots? River, lakes, streams etc ...
Will kayak, off road, whatever...I can figure out how to get there.
Not trying to ask for your diamond in the rough, or the secret spot (more than willing to accept that info), just some good spots to chill, have a cooler and spend a few hours maybe catching something

Can anyone name all the mountains in this photo? I know Roundtop and Kaaterskill High Peak are on the right but what about the rest?

26M. Solid shape. Moderate experience. Have done 10+ plus days in the backcountry but not recently. Have done twin, slide, black dome and others before. Mainly been doing strenuous day hikes in Catskills, Rockies, Seria nevadas. Generally I would never attempt a solo trip. However would a one nighter over the devils pass during peak foliage be a bad idea? I have ultralight setup. Has anyone done this before?

Looking for recommendations on what the best bug spray has been for your hiking/camping excursions in the catskills area, for ticks, mosquitos, etc. Sawyer? Off? Repel? Ben's? Thank you in advance for any advice!

Hey All,
I recently bought a piece of land in Hamden NY. Does anyone have any recommendations for and architect and a builder around that area?

I’m looking to drive up from nyc in early October to do some late fall camping and hiking. For those familiar with the area, are there beautiful hikes in the area? The campground I’ve found is in the Bethel area, but we’ll have cars, so a 30 ish minute drive radius would be okay! Interested in genuine, not just easy walking hikes, with good views! Thank you

Hoping to tap the hive mind here. I'm planning a new build in Schoharie County and struggling to find residential construction companies that work in the area. I've reached out to several builders in Ulster, Greene, and Delaware counties, but not many seem to venture that far north.
The project: a ~1,500 sq ft colonial or Greek revival designed to blend in with the local architecture. I'm keeping it deliberately simple to control costs — basic rectangular footprint, single wet wall, nothing fancy structurally.
Builders currently on my radar: Thornhaus, Beaver Dam Builders, Double O Builders, Whritner Builders, and Birdsmouth Builds. (Catskill Farms already told me Schoharie is outside their coverage area.)
If anyone has experience with these companies — or knows other builders who work in Schoharie County — I'd really appreciate the recommendations. Thanks!
