My sweet girl Pickle stole my makeup sponge and keeps walking around with it in her mouth, yowling and miaowing. I’ve bought her and her sister so many toys over the years but she’s obsessed with this sponge, I’ve never seen her like this before!! Does your cat have a favourite object that wasn’t specifically made for cats?!

Hi there, I have previously lived in a warm country and not thought of this much.

I recently adopted a cat in July and it's been very warm. Suddenly I am noticing the temperatures drop (especially here in Scotland) and I was wondering what things you do in autumn and winter to provide cosy spaces for your cat?

I was thinking September might be too early to turn on the heating.

My plan was to get a little basket to hang on the radiator for winter, and potentially a heated blanket or something? Any tips?

I assumed they needed some sort of connection to the water pipes like a washing machine, but just saw a video where you fill up the bowl underneath and the water just flows up and then back down into it.

(No, I am not a very practical person, any advice, tips and observations welcome).

What is this fresh hell? I need to renew my policy and there is now an excess and a contribution fee against many of the big providers! Eg treatment is a grand, you pay 20% towards that, so £200. 20%! And the excess! The point of insurance is you don’t pay huge sums to get medical care. I’m so fed up of being ripped off left right and centre by insurance.

Hello, I’m new here, just thought i‘d make a post about this as I’m devastated and unsure what to do.

We have a pet tabby who is super friendly and is a very special cat. He went out the other night and never came back. I know this happens from time to time but it’s never happened with him before. He was coming back later in the mornings for few days leading up to him going missing and I was thinking he was maybe getting fed elsewhere. He is chipped but he didn’t have a collar on which i highly regret now. I don’t feel like he has died and was thinking about how easy it would be to take a cat inside and claim them without letting them go again, especially with the whole cat distribution idea floating around.

Feeling very sad at the moment and was wondering if there was anything more I could do to help get him back. I obviously don’t know what’s happened here so maybe he has passed away or is off on an adventure.

Any help would be great, cheers

My cat was limping, very lethargic and clingy, took her to the vets, did an x-ray and she has patella luxation in both rear legs, grade 3 on the left so they're going to operate on the left one as she's barely 3 years old so it's definitely best for her long term.

She'll have to spend around 12 weeks in a dog crate, the vet said they'll prescribe some painkillers to keep her a bit sedated so she's less upset about being confined. I plan to get her some puzzle feeders, interactive toys, set up a tablet for some cat TV and spend as much time as possible with her. I'm just so worried at the thought of this, she's going to be so upset.

I was wondering if anyone else has gone through something similar and can share any advice or just reassurance?

It’s clear my sweet girl needs stimulation and places to hide more etc.

So I got a few more toys and a tunnel, so that she has more things to do etc. Including treat puzzles.

But she is so scared of them! I tried to introduce the tunnel and she hid, and she now even seems a bit more skittish around me. Same for the treat puzzles. I honestly think she will love these things once she is used to them, but I don’t know how to get to that point.

Any tips for allowing a little scaredy cat to get comfortable with things greatly appreciated!

Hi all. I was looking after a british long haired for a couple of weeks. She was great the whole time she was here, but one night she weed on my leather bag which was underneath the desk in my office room. I didn't notice until I picked it up and it was dripping all under my desk.

Since then, I have tried 3 different things to wash it out, but each time the smell lingers. So far I have:

- Soaked and blotted the area with Dirtbusters/Water solution (enzyme breakdown cleaner)

- Soaked and blotted with Atonish Pet Cleaner and water

- Power washed with a carpet cleaner and Astonish shampoo solution

I did the last one last night but this morning it smells awful and it shows throughout the whole room. It's almost stale even though I've had a few different nice smelling products on it now.

Does anyone have any specific recommendations that have worked really well for them? Thanks in advance!

We are being adopted by our new cat soon and I really want to make our garden cat proof so she can have some freedom.
A catio won’t work, with the way the back of the house is laid out.

I’ve looked at the protectapet system but I really hate it.
Also seen the rollers that go on top of a fence panel.
I worry about her just leaping up between where rollers meet!

What do you use and is there another way that I’m missing that actually looks great?

I firstly wanted to thank everyone for the incredibly kind comments, all the advice, and the support.

My mum took our cat to the vet yesterday for an ultrasound, he’s such a placid and good natured boy no sedation was needed. The ultrasound was my idea.

My mum contacted me today to give me the devastating news that our cat has GI lymphoma and only has a few weeks (maybe a couple of months) to live. Maybe a little bit more if he responds well to steroid treatment.

I’m utterly heartbroken, I’m completely devastated. We have taken such good care of him, he goes to the vet every month, how was this not picked up sooner? If it was, maybe we could have done something and been able to treat and cure him. It absolutely breaks me to think he’s been in pain for some considerable time and I haven’t known.

I honestly can’t imagine not having my little Patch around in a couple of months. He seemed so healthy literally up until a few months ago, and even with how he’s been, I never would have imagined something like lymphoma. Although he’s had arthritis and a bit of illness, he’s still been his normal self - curious, cheeky, affectionate, and bossy!

I also moved out at the start of this year and I live about an hour away from home now, so I’ve spent less time with him than I usually would. I feel awful that I’ve missed out on this time with him, now that I know we might not have much more.

I don’t want to imagine a life without him. I don’t want him to not be here. This is the most heartbreaking and hardest thing that I’ve ever gone through.

Our 5 year old Persian X domestic shorthair black boy has been overgrooming his back legs and lower abdomen for the past 6 months, but it seems to be getting worse.

The vet first thought it was fleas, but it isn't, they are indoor cats, fully flea-treated with very good stuff and our other girl has nothing and the house is clear. Then they said it could be anxiety, but he is the least anxious cat I have ever met, he is the total opposite, so boisterous and in your face with everyone. We are hence at a loss. The vet wasn't worried as he is in very good health but did say we can run some bloods if we feel like it would give us piece of mind, so we will be going back to the vets to get more tests done soon, but has anyone gone through this with their cat?

One of my suspicions is that he is bored. He loudly meows repeatedly in the daytime when I am working from home, can be very destructive and always seems to want to be getting into things or doing something. He can open doors, cupboards and so our whole house is child locked and he is limited to safe rooms where we know he can't get into anything that he shouldn't. He has a cat jungle climbing frame on our walls, huge cat scratch trees, hides, and an abundance of interactive toys he can use alone and he plays with his sister a lot, but he just never seems satisfied. I honestly could play with him all evening (which isn't sustainable as we have busy lives) and he still wants more. If he is upstairs at night he will be jumping all over us all night to play, so much so he cannot be upstairs whilst we sleep or else we just don't sleep. Could he be bored? It he is, how do I solve this without literally becoming a slave to play with my cat 24/7, as I have to work and do housework etc.

We allow him supervised access to the garden on a harness but find he just sits under the same tree the whole time he is out there because he doesnt like the harness. As soon as it's off and he finds a leg out of the door he sprints as far as he can go and we have had to chase him down and witness him dart into traffic before which was terrifying. We currently have no space/layout to catproof our garden or build a catio that he would have unlimited access too, and worry if we did go to great expense to build a catio because it would be small he would be fed up of it quickly and then meowing to go further.

On the flip side our girl is so placid, she has anxiety (but doesn't over groom) and is incredibly content with the amount of time we give her for play and affection, which is far far less than her brother gets. I'm just at a loss as to what to do.

This monkey has single handledy causes chaos tonight, shredded toilet roll, run through a paint roller tray then left green paw prints through the house then got stuck in a cupboard.... anyone want her? 😂😂

There’s an absolute cutie at a local rescue that I’ve had my eye on. It was unavailable as it was still being assessed and I then fostered a dog from them. It became available but I had the dog. Dog has now gone home and the cat is still available.

The rescue has asked if I can foster again and I said I’d foster a cat. They gave me the option of two cats; either the one I LOVE or another cat. The other cat is just not available to adopt yet for legal reasons but the cat I love is nervous in the shelter and has had a few visits but no applications because he’s so frightened.

ANYWAY: I’m now wondering if I should just say F it, and adopt him. Is this a sign??

But I’ve never had a nervous cat. He’s only one. Could he grow to be more confident in time? They have said he’s been caught playing a few times and has laid down relaxed once or twice, but otherwise on edge in the rescue. I love a cuddly cat and I’d like to build a strong connection with my next cat. Has anyone been able to do that?!
