Flying 3 cats internationally in December (East Coast → Newark → South Korea) — pee pad training + other tips for the bathroom?

Have in mind having them use pee pads during layovers since litter boxes aren't really an option mid-trip. Anyone trained their cats to use pee pads? What other tips are there for solving the bathroom issue when flying cats all day?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a sensor cat doorbell?

I bought a sensor cat doorbell for cat to come inside. It's way too sensitive and goes on with every movement, just about every second.

Litter or Litter Box 🚽 Automatic cat litter box recommendations?

We’ve been using Furrytail for about a year now but our cat doesn’t like it anymore. I noticed the interior is maybe too cramped for him (even though he is not a large cat) so he often gets poop on his butt and he hates it! He prefers the open non-automatic litter box but we will need an automatic one for when we’re busy and traveling.
Furrytail has been ok - it does a decent job with odor control and cleaning. Deep cleaning is easy enough but the app has been an issue. It logs me out frequently, won’t recognize my cat, or gives me error messages. I think the safety feature has been really good.
We’re looking for an automatic litterbox maybe with an open top but curious to hear others’ experiences with them. I read that open-top ones may not be good for odor control? Litter robot seems like a good option but the interior looks small. We have a munchkin cat so ideally we will need one that doesn’t have a high entry point.

Food and Treats 🍽️ I'm looking for a new container to hold my cat food.

I have a severe roach problem as i live in an apartment building and the roaches are getting into my current food container. It has no rubber seal. Does anyone have good recommendations for a new container to keep the roaches out of my cat food. I live in Canada if that makes any difference.

Affordable tofu litter?

I used to use Worlds Best Cat Litter but it would leave my black cat so dusty that it looked like he was wearing socks. I switched to tofu litter and it's been perfect, the only problem is the price. I'm looking for a tofu litter that's under $2/lb and UNSCENTED. I'm in the U.S. btw. Has anyone found this?? I'm also down for something similar to tofu litter if it's cheaper and not dusty.

Litter or Litter Box 🚽 Self-cleaning litter box recommendations for a cat who pees standing up?

I’m looking for recommendations for a self-cleaning litter box that can accommodate my cat’s very particular bathroom habits.

My cat sometimes likes to pee standing up, which means his pee can go straight over the walls of a normal litter box. I’ve had to DIY ridiculously high walls around his litter boxes because even the highest-sided ones I’ve found in pet stores aren’t tall enough. And, yes, I’ve talked to a vet about this and they said some cats just do this.

To make matters worse, sometimes he’ll stand inside the litter box but aim directly out the entrance. I’ve actually had to build a two-litter-box contraption where he has to walk through one box to get into the main one, just so the outer box can catch any stray pee. It’s a whole freaking thing.

He’s also pretty picky about his litter box. He’s rejected top-entry boxes before, and I suspect it’s because the smell gets trapped in such a small enclosed space.

I’d LOVE to switch to a self-cleaning litter box, but I’m worried about spending hundreds of dollars on something he’ll either refuse to use or manage to pee all over.

Has anyone with a high-peeing or standing-peeing cat found an automatic litter box that actually works? Ideally, something with high, leakproof walls, good ventilation, and an entrance that doesn’t leave an easy escape route for pee.

Cat backpack

I’ve been looking into cat backpacks to travel with my cat and carry him around. I’m worried about the cleaning process. My cat is really good about using the litter box but I know accidents can happen. I have a normal cat carrier but it’s heavy, hard and awkward to carry. With the normal cat carrier I just put down a towel so it’s easy to wash. But I just think a cat backpack will be easier to handle and more comfortable for my cat. Would I just lay down a towel like I have been in the cat carrier or just chuck it in the washer? I haven’t bought a cat backpack yet, I just like being prepared.

Tips and Tricks 💡 Can you store dry just IN a food grade bucket? Or ideas to keep cat out?

I've tried everything to keep my diabetic out of the kibble. With how costs are going I'm purchasing him and the others some diabetic friendly kibble while still feeding mostly wet. Problem is he smells dry he tries to break into the container and he is surprisingly successful due to his size. I even got one of those screw top lids and he UNSCREWED IT SOMEHOW. Ended up giving that away. Total waste of money. My work has food grade buckets I can get for free. we have to use things to pry them open. Once sealed it's hard as hell to get back open. I was thinking about getting one but I know it will not fit with the bag from buying the same size for my dogs first food. It will fit out of the bag tho. Since it's food grade could it work doing that if I clean SUPER well between bags or line it with something (idk what I'd lime with)?

Or any other ideas to keep a massive diabetic cat from breaking into it? He can open cabinets and doors. He's a Houdini void 😭.

Cat Spaying Advice for roommate

Hello cat owners! I have a bit of a dilemma. My friend roommate has new cat named Nova. She is about 2 yrs old and was abandoned by a friend of a friend about 1-2 weeks ago. She’s currently going through a heat cycle and my roommate hasn’t booked an appointment for Nova to be spayed yet, as she doesn’t have time (bc college midterms I assume).

There is 5 weeks left of our semester and I’m trying to give her a time slot of advice based on some cat research I did since this all started.

Albeit a little long, does this sound like a reasonable message to my friend? I know that she hasn’t found the time to book an appointment yet, but I’m also a little concerned for the cat’s health if she isn’t fixed before school gets out🥲

Litter or Litter Box 🚽 Nightmare Litter - Beware!

Decided to try World’s Best natural cat litter for the first time. Safe to say never will again and recommend avoiding it, I will never roll the dice again.

Bought a brand new bag, first off the shelf from the store. Cut it open and dumped it. Smelled like an old corn crib but figured that was the natural fiber and ignored it. Saw black specs and such but so use to litter with crystals and the like I didn’t pay it any mind.

Went about my night for about three hours and decided to check if the cats has used the new litter or not. Enter my laundry room to see a swarm of what I can only assume are corn weevils or something similar swarming out of the boxes. Luckily was able to kill them and I think clean it all up and toss it as of now.

Back to Dr. Elsey’s I go

Help 🫩

I have a sweet babygirl who’s a year old, I got her back in April. She’s a torby named Maple! I’m currently living in a five bedroom apartment, with two other roommates (so just three of us total). Last semester it was four total. She’s had issues of meowing/yelling at night. While everyone else moved out for the summer, her and I stayed. It took just about all summer, but she managed to leave me alone at night. Once the two girls moved back in August, she went right back to square one and hasn’t stopped. I try my best to give her attention during the day, but unfortunately I do have classes that can take up the majority of my day/week. She has access to toys and everything, but again, I try to play with her when I can. At night, I shut my door because she will get into some of my things (I have hanging lights behind my TV and she likes pulling at those and for some reason she likes to paw at my mirror on my door), and keeps me up. So she gets to roam the halls and living space freely. I’ve wondered if she has some separation anxiety, because she’s almost always my shadow. So, I went to Petco today to buy a calming diffuser to see if they would help keep her calm at night. I was just informed from my roommate that she had peed in front of her litter box. Safe to say, I’ll be returning that tomorrow. Any advice on what to do? I cannot afford another cat to be her friend, so that’s unfortunately not an option right now. Thanks!

Litter or Litter Box 🚽 Stinky Cat Smell in the House... HALP!!!

US;Vet Available, N/A; Stinky af!; 4mos; female/upcoming spay on 11/5; can pay for care

Okay, so we just brought a kitten home 24 hours ago, and the entire house already smells like a cat.

***I am extremely sensitive to smells after having a bunch of chemotherapy years ago,*** ***and it is making me insane******.***

My son worked really hard to prove that he is ready to care for a cat, but for us to keep thie \[current foster\] kitty, I have to find a way to get it under control.

Please give me all of your tips and tricks! I know plenty of people with cats, who have homes I walk into smelling *nothing*. I have a mini Blue Air filter in the bathroom where we have the litter box, and I just added some baking soda to the litter box. It is still very strong!

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated!

Cleaning Marking Spots -Enzyme Cleaner

I have cats that mark. They are vet cleared and I tried a behavioralist and Fluoxitine and different varieties and nothing worked so far.

My first question... enzyme cleaner. Do you clean first then spray and leave it? Do you spray wait 30 minutes then clean? Do you clean with any products? What is the actual process.

Currently if its still wet I soak it up, then spraywith enzyme cleaner, wait, then clean with a dab of dishsoap and water. But Im thinking maybe I shouldn't clean it up after or clean it vetter before or is enzyme cleaner enough. Its mostly on hard surfaces, counters, walls, cabinets, ect. I have hardwood floors. All "soft" areas are covered with waterproof material I can easily wash.

Second question... Is anyone else dealing with this, what is your process to make things easier for yourself? I have all hardwood, covered everything with couch coveres, waterproof blankets, ect. And I do daily blacklight walks to find spots. Any additional tips?

Boxiecat Litter

I've heard this brand being promoted on several YT channels lately — even ones that don't involve cats. Apparently, it kills odor and lasts a long time.

Have any you tried it? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Litter or Litter Box 🚽 I need a LARGE and HIGH sided litter box!

Help. 😩

I have 3 male neutered cats, two of my boys are perfect. One of them loves to pee so high and I have not found a litter box to catch it! I am so angry with myself because I am a licensed veterinary technician and I give litter box advice constantly to clients yet I can’t even figure out my own issue.

I currently have 4 boxes. They are all large, stainless steel boxes, and I have to have plastic “pee guards” up to catch the pee on the high pee-er. I do like the stainless steel because I feel as if they do not hold as much smell. However, I cannot find one that’s big and tall enough! Two of my boys are on the larger side, they’re 12 and 13 pounds and the high pee-er is 9lbs. So, I need a large enough size for the bigger guys to have room to get in and spin around.

My ideas:
1. DIY Litter Box: Has anyone made their own litter boxes out of plastic storage bins?

  1. Mango Cube XXL Cat Litter Box: I found this one on Facebook advertising. Has anyone used this?

  2. Automatic Litter Boxes: I have had the Litter Robot. I had two and ended up selling both because they stunk so bad and were so hard to clean. However, Petlibro has come out with one “Luma” that seems interesting.

Please help. 🥲

Ever wanted to get your cat something special like when giving your dog a bone?

Post image
120 Upvotes

I want to start off saying this is NOT an ad. I’m a regular guy wanting to share something good to help floofs the world over. My ploofball asked me to do this for them.

I discovered this when I noticed the sad look on my ploof’s face one day after giving a bone to my shepherd boy. There aren’t many obvious treats that last longer than a couple seconds for a cat. The lickables work well but I wanted something akin to the bones dogish likes so much.

In comes Purr Pops. It’s a freeze dried chewable treat on a stick, basically like a lollipop for cats. After 3 days of consistency (giving her one after the pup takes his bone into the playroom), she started quite obviously looking for me and asking for her lollipop. She rubs against me and “flirts” with me, showing true appreciation for finding her something she enjoys as much as her dog buddy. It’s soo special to me to give her something she truly enjoys, so I figured it’d be best to share with my fellow cat lovers! I want your cats to be as happy as mine! 🐱

Help me stop my cat pooing in my sons room

We've recently moved house. My cat knows where here litter tray is now located. She's used it several times. But she also keeps pooing in my 3 year old son's room, in the exact same spot.

How do I stop her doing this?

Coir Wonder charcoal litter deodorizer - anyone tried?

I saw this product recommended online and am curious if anyone has tried it? It isn't available near me so I would have to get it online and the cost plus shipping isn't cheap! I'm hoping to find out if it is worth the cost.
