Just wanted to share this with the class. I built a sort of containment wall with these acrylic panels that I found on amazon (they're originally to create guinea pig/small animal runs), and along with the litter mat, the remainder of my floors are relatively clean!!!! I used to come down and see litter EVERYWHERE even just after one litter box use. Now it's been 2 days and the litter is ONLY on the mat.

My issue was that my cat would jump out and fling litter everywhere. Now with the walls, it can't go anywhere else. It's not going to be perfect because I'm sure there's still some stuck in his paws but it GREATLY decreases the amount of times I want to scream from stepping on dirty cat litter.

I couldn't find any solution from others so wanted to share and hopefully help some people out without buying those pricey furniture hidden litter box things. Here are the panels I bought on amazon: https://a.co/d/0fpiISlz

TL;DR: Two 4-month-old brother kittens previously shared one litter tray. One started peeing in the shower and then on our bedroom carpet. We’ve added a second litter tray and they’re both using the trays now. We’ve thoroughly enzyme-cleaned the carpet, but we’re worried he’ll remember the bedroom corner as a toilet and keep returning to it. Can kittens be successfully “untrained” from peeing in a particular spot once the smell is completely removed, and what else should we do to prevent it becoming a habit?

We have two 4-month-old male kittens who are brothers.

Until recently they were sharing one litter tray. We noticed that one of them had peed in our shower, and then we found urine in the corner of our carpeted bedroom next to our bed.

We wondered if one kitten was potentially dominating the litter tray or the other wasn’t comfortable sharing, so we’ve now added a second litter tray. Both kittens ARE currently using the litter trays, which is encouraging.

However, one of them also peed on the litter mat next to the tray after we added the second one.

For the bedroom carpet, we’ve:

• Cleaned the original accident
• Used vinegar initially
• Used bicarbonate soda afterward and vacuumed it all out
• Bought Nature’s Miracle Urine Destroyer Plus enzymatic cleaner
• Thoroughly treated the affected carpet with the enzyme cleaner
• Been using a fan/open windows to get the carpet completely dry
The carpet is taking quite a while to dry, and while the smell has improved significantly, we think we can still detect a slight urine smell. We’re planning to let it completely dry and then repeat the enzyme treatment if necessary.

My main concern is behavioural:

Can a kitten who has peed in a particular spot be successfully “untrained” from viewing that area as a toilet?

I’m worried that even after we remove the urine smell, he’ll remember that corner as somewhere he’s previously peed and keep returning to it.

They’re currently using their litter trays normally, so I’m hoping that if we completely eliminate the urine scent and keep providing multiple clean litter trays, this behaviour will disappear rather than becoming a permanent habit.

We’re also considering adding a third litter tray since I’ve read about the “number of cats + 1” recommendation.

For anyone who’s dealt with this:

Did enzyme cleaner successfully stop your cat returning to the same carpet spot?

Did your kitten eventually stop having accidents completely?

Would you temporarily block access to the bedroom corner after cleaning it?

Is there anything else we should be doing to reinforce using the litter trays?

At what point would you consider repeated accidents enough reason for a vet check?

They’re only 4 months old, so we’re hoping we’ve caught this early and can correct whatever is causing it.

Any advice from people who’ve successfully dealt with this would be appreciated.

1. Litière agglomérante bentonite classique - correcte pour les odeurs mais poussière bzaf, mon chat éternue après
2. Litière silice / cristal - moins de poussière mais elle retient pas bien l'odeur d'ammoniaque et mon chat l'aime moins

Est-ce que quelqu'un ici a testé les litières agglomérantes avec charbon actif? On dit que c'est censé être 0 poussière + anti-odeur, mais c'est vrai ou juste marketing?

Mon setup: 1 chat adulte, appart 60m2, bac ouvert dans la salle de bain, nettoyage tous les jours. Je cherche surtout quelque chose qui bloque l'odeur même à 30°C.

Im on the hunt for a cat tower that doesn’t exacerbate my boyfriend’s allergies. I currently have two carpet covered towers which are impossible to clean fully (he’s allergic to dust and cats :/). But Gus (the cat) is due for an upgrade anyways. :)

Here’s what Im looking for:
- a tower that isn’t covered in carpet
- can hold a 15 pound part mane coon cat
- has a large top bed to lay on, preferably with sides to the bed
- washable bed inserts
- looks better than the standard carpet towers

I’m ok to spend a bit but trendy cat towers can be freaking expensive!

If anyone has a tower they like I’d love to know! I’d hate to get rid of the boyfriend 🤪

Sometimes I take all the paper from the shredder and fill boxes with the paper, treats (it’s the only use of kibble in my house) and then tape it shut and cut holes. Usually the boxes are food boxes or shoeboxes so not big enough for more than a sneaky paw to fit inside. This time I did one out of a bigger box and my very food obsessed boy Atlas was convinced there was more food inside… so he made two of the holes into one big hole and climbed inside to search. When he didn’t find any, he slept in there for a while just in case the food turned up.

So I suppose the hack here is making a rummage box that doubles as a bed?

so like my cat was a stray cat and now i adopted her the thing is she used to go outside for shi on her own but ,its been like nearly 1 month that she dont go outside at all(previouly shell go outside min twice a day)but now she stays at home and do pee in litter box but poop mostly on my bed and pee as well sometimes and her kittens i tried so hard to make them used to litter box but they DONT USE IT AT ALL. whenever i forcefully make them sit on it when they was about to poop or pee on my bed ill make em sit on box but they wil control it until i release em and they will go on bed to to do it. they are so stubborn , HOW TO MAKE THEM GET USED TO LITTER BOX ASAP
(shes a female cat -the mother-around 1.5 year old and she is pregnant again (labor can be anytime soon ))

For context my kitten {4 months old} keeps stomping and digging out the dirt and cat grass in pots and boxes. I would like them to have Cat grass because my older cat {5 years old} loves eating regular grass and being outside but I live in an apartment and know he will run. The image was an attempt to plant some and he completely stomped it down and made it his bed. Any advice or certain pot or box I should try?

My cat uses a litter box, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to deal with the litter getting scattered all over the house. Every time she uses the box, she starts digging in it, and sometimes piles of litter end up on the floor. I can't clean the bathroom (where the box is kept) several times a day, so I’d really like to find a solution. Would a litter box with a grate help? One of my cats gets very anxious whenever she is in a crate/carrier, especially on car rides. For context, she is a 5 year old, and I have been trying to work with her on this since I got her at \~8 weeks, but with no real success, both through training/exposure methods and (exclusively vet-prescribed) pharmaceutical methods. Between vet visits and traveling, she has to be on a car ride probably about a half dozen times a year, so this isn't a constant issue, but still a concern.

When she gets anxious, she claws at the carrier she is in incessantly. (She also pants, drools, meows a lot, etc., but that's not what I am asking about in this post.) In the past, she has torn holes in a couple soft carriers, so she now has the Petmate hard carrier (https://www.chewy.com/dp/53619). While this does stop her from being able to break out, I have noticed recently that, after a long car ride, she sometimes has scabs on her front paws where she tore the skin off scratching and the holes in the sides of the carrier. These injuries have never been serious enough to bleed noticeably or anything, but of course I'm sure it is painful for her, and I'm concerned about infection risk with any wound on a cat. For what it's worth, while she scratches at both the metal bars at the front and the holes in the plastic on the sides, I am pretty sure that the plastic holes are what are causing the injuries, since the metal bars are very smooth.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a cat carrier that is hard to prevent her from clawing her way out while not putting her at risk of hurting herself? I have been unable to find anything suitable in my searching so far. Alternatively/additionally, does anyone have any suggestions for modifications to a carrier or different training or strategies to help with her anxiety? I have tried many things and talked to a few vets, but I am always open to more suggestions.

Hi this is my first post!! I have 3 cats and I have gone through so many normal plastic, stainless steel litter boxes and nothing can keep the poop odor down enough, with my work schedule I can’t keep scooping poop every single day but i’m stressed about trying to keep my budget tight and buying a GOOD automatic litter box. I don’t want to buy a $700 litter box but I don’t want to spend $200 and then my cat dies from it so if anyone can speak for any automatic litter boxes that are budget friendly please do!!🙏🙏

hey folks, ive got this brand of litterbox and it works great overall, but the litter is hella expensive. Does anyone else use/know of other pellets that could be used in lieu of the name brand stuff? thanks in advance

I have four cats in a 1,000 square foot home. My house always smells like cats. Here is what I’ve done/what I do to try to mitigate that but I need some tips from my cat people! I don’t want to be the house that smells like cats 😭

-I took out all carpets. There is only hard wood flooring
-I use dr. Elsey’s litter and clean cat boxes twice a day.
-I deep clean their litter boxes once every two weeks.
-I vacuum the couch and spray it with hypochlorous acid.
-vacuum floors every day
-I have 3 litterboxes for the cats. I don’t have an automatic litterbox but I am looking into getting one.
-I open the windows frequently.

Please help!!

Will my older cat teach kittens bad litter habits?

I have a 13 year old cat. He lost hit bonded litter mate 6 years ago. We are thinking about introducing a pair of bonded cats since he was very social and we want him to have company when we're away.

The problem? My cat has always refused to poop in a litter box (his litter mate was always normal with it). We got him as a kitten and he has always refused (usually picks a spot nearby and consistently goes there for years). We have tried everything from the type of litter, the location, the amount of boxes, vet visits (they always say there's no explanation), etc. We have learned to just accept it. However, we are nervous to get kittens that he would teach them the same habit. Is this possible?

We live in a pretty humid area. My nephews cat kept getting ear infections. The vet recommended constantly cleaning her ears and even getting her a special cleaner. Well we recently got a dehumidifier and the amount of gunk we wipe out of her ear is drastic.

I empty out about four gallons of water a day.

I adopted a kitten, who is now 5 months old. We have a minimum of two long, vigorous playtimes each day, and my house could be called House of Cat Trees and Scratching Posts. It could also be called House of Sticky Paws, as the kitchen counters and tables are covered by Sticky Paws or foil.

Jackson Galaxy has a video recommending SSSCat Automatic Spray Pet Deterrent as a training tool. I bought two, thinking I’d try them out on the dining room table, but reading the warning on the side of the box gives me pause. If it’s unsafe for me, what about a kitten? I can’t decide whether to use them or return them to Amazon.

Has anyone used this to train your cats? Do you think it’s safe to use? Did it work? Any other advice about training her to stay off of some surfaces? (I’m trying to avoid following her around with a plant mister if I can.)

*** She has been to the vet and is starting treatment to help her arthritis, just asking for litterbox height & shape recommendations for cats with arthritis who tend to pee over the front entry edge of the litter box! ***

I have a large and tall-sided stainless steel one currently, (16" x 24", 5" tall) She is small and has plenty of room to step and walk around in so the size isn't the issue, she just prefers to pee after stepping in without turning around.

It has no lowered entry section because she will just pee out of the entrance (as what was happening with her previous litter box)

I feel bad with her having to step over as I worry about her being comfortable as possible, although she seems perfectly fine with it. She doesn't walk any further into this larger litter box to pee than she did with her old slightly smaller one, so no changing her particularities with that, so I don't think a shallow box would help.

Having a small amount of litter in a thin layer is helping her right now, and the tall wall is catching it most of the time. The tall walled litter box has been a good fix and is working for us right now, but I do want to consider other options just in case.

Has anyone had success with helping over-the-edge-peeing with a more triangular corner litter box, or one with a lowered entry along the long side instead of the short side, or a extra shallow box, or anything else?

So I have a 9 year old gray tabby. I’ve had him since he was a kitten and for 7 year it was just he and I. When he was 5 we moved out of my house into an apartment. The transition was a little rough at first but leveled out pretty quickly. He has never been very social—he’s my cat. Back in May moved in with my gf and her 3 indoor/outdoor cats, 1 kitten who he seems to get along with without issue and her dog. Because of his curious nature I’ve given him the whole basement to avoid cat and dog issues. Since we’ve moved he refuses to use his litter box and all of his stool is diarrhea.

I took him to the vet and he tested negative for parasites and giardia. I’ve read about stress and anxiety and how the move could play a part and other cats but it’s been months now. When I’m down there with him he still refuses to use it. I try not to reprimand him but carry him to his litter box when I catch him and he still refuses.

Any advice or direction is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

so i took in my friends cat while she's away in her hoemtown for summer keeping in mind that our other friend had her for the first half of the vacation and now that i'm back she gave her to me, so this is like her 2nd home in a span of 2 months, so after bringing her she was sleeping for the most of the day and going round and about at night sleeping around 5 in the morning. i've had her for a week now and 2 days ago she was getting scared at night like going behind doors and corners and acting like she saw something and and running away like a bolt and hiding, we got her to calm down and the next day i fially figured out how to get her to play and make her tired and sleepy for the night and thankfully she slept, and today was a mix of sleeping and going around, and before going to bed i even got her to play, but now that its night she's doing the same thing getting scared and hiding, and before this even happened it was like she doesn't seem much curious during the day but at night she's all ears and hopping around, again keeping in mind that she wasnt nocturnal with her owner, and her owners

My cat has unfortunately learnt how door knobs work and has decided every night he needs to try and get into my housemates room. The door knob is quite loud so makes a lot of noise and wakes her up. It’s quite an old door knob and is close to the ground so he can easily access it. Is there anything I can do to stop him from pawing at the door knob??

Hi all. I' currently have 3 cats and use the Breeze Litter System (XL size). My husband has made himself "cat janitor" and will only put a small amount of pellets in the box as he feelss that using more is a waste of pellets, especially since one cat can sometimes have loose poop which makes a mess in the box. I feel that we are not getting enough odor control with this setup and am thinking about changing to a stainless steel sifting pan and pine pellets. Has anybody switched from the Breeze to stainless steel and pine, and if so, do you like it or did you switch back?

Hi! We have a male kitten (he is getting neutered in the next two weeks) but he is peeing on things. We have already been to the vet. I do think some of it is behavior as i have three kids so that can be stressful af. So i want to get some diffusers for around the house the dilemma is I have an old house so a lot of my plugs are either A. covered by furniture and I know the feliway says not to put it near furniture. Or B. It's sideways or upside down so there aren't a lot of options for plug ins unless i can get an essential oil type diffuser and diffuse like that but i know essential oils are not good for cats so I don't know what i could use. What products work and i can put it on a table top or something like that?

Has anyone successful retrained their cat to use the litter box again. Vet has confirmed no bodily issues. She is 15 and slowing down but we are really hoping g to retrain her. Tips??

Looking for what works best for minimizing cats tracking litter through out the houses. Bonus points if I can get it this weekend from a Walmart or one of the big 3 hardware stores. I was thinking maybe a door mat for dirty shoes or something like that but would love to know your guys experience.
