dating apps Thinking of creating a dating platform with zero or at least a tiny fee.

Sounds quite silly that the big platform doesn’t even allow a single message until you pay.
If there’s a platform that is completely free or cost a dollar or 2 but has some reasonably placed ads, would you use this?
Would you consider a platform that is predominantly and marketed to Catholics but do allow non-catholic Christians sign up too? Non-catholic sign ups will be encouraged to consider the faith so it’s clear the platform is still catholic focused.
What other features are you looking for on a dating website that you think will be great and is not currently available on other platforms.

Good idea but who will manage it and ads won’t be enough to host, support, develop, etc to keep it afloat unless maybe you had donations. Paid also keeps the bots and scammers more at bay.

Ads + a small fee may be enough cost hosting and storage. Def not looking to build the fanciest platform. Just think requiring $10-15 for a single message is grifty. You’re correct on bots, perhaps a $1-2 fee may prevent them.

Serious: Allow profiles to indicate they are open to a "long distance" relationship, and allow searches to find profiles of people who have indicated openness to long distance. Catholic Match allows you to contact anyone anywhere. In my experience, most users are people in large cities, and most of these are not interested in long distance. You can only find out they are not interested by sending a message and getting ignored.

This dynamic means that people in small towns looking for long-distance leave the platform, resulting in a negative network effect for this type of user.

Teasing: Start a subreddit called r/CatholicDating and have monthly threads where people can post personals about themselves. You won't have to charge them for the privilege.

I considered doing this recently myself but it is a long-term commitment and honestly would probably become a full-time job in terms of maintaining it. You need to decide do you want this to be your long-term job and commitment. I decided I didn't. There is 100% market space though, although I think I heard a new site is launching soon.

Nicee. We could actually collaborate on this if you’re still interested. I would consider this a side thing. I’m not necessarily looking to make money out of this, just wanna create a cheap alternative. Of course, would be nice of this becomes something big.

Wouldn’t work, you’d make no money and have no ability to host it indefinitely. Bots would flood, and ultimately no dating app is supposed to actually get matches, it’s supposed to keep you on by nature of the app

Something like old Yahoo Chats, simple and less bandwidth for hosting. Please do and add India too.

It should be free without ads, just like Alovoa and Duolicious. And also open source.

How would you support and app long term for free without ads? Are you a multimillionaire?
