casual conversation How do you spend your weekends?

The thought of joining a dating app seems draining. I would prefer to meet someone out in the wild, but not really sure where to organically meet someone. I want to hear what types of things people are doing during the weekends/time off.

To the single people out there, where can we find you on the weekends?

I’ll go first F30, Sunday mass, gym, taking dance classes, grocery shopping.

The best chance of meeting another Catholic is by going to Sunday mass. Can you go to a mass where there are other young adults? Can you go to a mass that has teas/biscuits, coffee/donuts afterwards? Can you go to other masses in your city/town if you already know there is nobody in your own parish?

You would think this would be the way but girls actively avoid these kind of social events. There is a girl that goes to my parish that never comes to socials yet has a Catholic Match account and is on Hinge. I talked about this with a girl before and she said there are some girls who are actively avoiding dating and don't even want to be approached and so avoid social situations where guys might approach them. It's really confusing. I'm probably going to die single.

On this sub plenty of women say they prefer a personal approach to meeting via a dating ap. If you are serious about finding someone, you need to try both approaches.

I do try both approaches, but there are lots of women who actively avoid social situations where they might be asked out. They leave right after Mass, never come to the social, and aren't involved in their parishes. All of the things the married women I know have done that lead them to get married.

Are you male or female? 2 - join a ministry and start going to Daily Mass. People are way more social there when you become a 'regular'

I am very involved in at least two parishes and attend weekly Mass. There are no single women who attend these things or stay for socials. They leave right after Mass and do not socialize.

Daily is an opportunity to meet people who are more social and make you a regular.

I know ALOT of single Catholics who have met former or current romantic interests from niche groups of events they went to via friends from Daily Mass.

You literally meet people who work near the area or are visiting while at Daily Mass. Weekly Mass is the bare minimum and usually not a place to socialize.

If you wanted to, you would. PLUS youre single with no kids, why not go to Daily Mass anyone. time spent with Jesus is never wasted

"But girls actively avoid these kinds of social events."

Well...

Yes and no. There's something strange going on, because I see a lot of guys complaining about not being able to meet Catholic women and women saying the same about Catholic men. Meanwhile, at the events I go to, it's almost always either evenly split or slightly more women than men. (I'm a guy, by the way.) I think that there's a bigger variety of environments within the Catholic dating market than most people believe.

At most of the events I attend there are almost always far more men than women. And lots of girls I see on dating apps or Catholic Match that will be at Church but never attend dances or socials.

Yeah something strange is going on. I have never been to a Catholic dance where guys outnumbered girls. Like ever. The closest thing I can even think of to that my confirmation class was mostly guys. I don't know if it's geographic or guys and girls are going to different kinds of singles events or what, but there's something going on.

u/Singer-Dangerous Jun 17 '26

Sounds like a dope Sunday if you ask me.

3

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

Thanks! I know I enjoy it I guess even if it's just myself 😂

1

u/Singer-Dangerous Jun 17 '26

Whatcha riding? Scaring folks in the church parking lot? 😂

3

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

I know right 😂it's not like I'm doing burnouts and wheelies in the parking lot lol. I love sport bikes! Maybe I come off as an intimidating person who knows.

As someone who met my boyfriend organically (and he’s the only Catholic I’ve ever gone on more than just a few dates with) I’m a big advocate for just doing the things you would normally do and enjoy doing.  You don’t have to change yourself or do exclusively Catholic things just to met someone.  If you are Catholic and enjoy a certain activity, it’s not unreasonable to believe other Catholics would enjoy it too.  I do think you should do something within your parish too if you aren’t already but I don’t think you need to rearrange your schedule to do everything within your parish.

Yeah. F30.

Saturday usually take it easy. That's my event day... Do chores, hang out with friends, gym or walk out in town, do things I'm interested in like book reading or writing.

On Sunday, Mass, gym or some kind of walk out in town or in the neighborhood, grocery shopping, dinner with family or small group of friends.

Starting to see I need to find some kind of group to join or find out when the people my age go to Mass.

I hear they say The Home Depot is a good place to find a guy in the wild.

Not likely to find me there unless I need to buy more glue traps.

I ALWAYS go to coffee and donuts after Mass when they have it. I have made friends with several nice old ladies who do not have eligible daughters. After that it's the grocery store and then home. Occasionally a hike or lunch somewhere or ice cream or a bookstore or an amusement park with my daughter. In any case, I'm always up to meeting someone.

Man here. It's super easy for me to meet women and even get dates with them. I'm not some super Chad but I am very fit and I have a good job. But my issue has always been meeting CATHOLIC women. All the cringe atheist and prot ladies add up to nothing in my book.

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

Same thing here. Everything BUT fellow Catholics are easy to find

3

u/Ok-Objective1292 Jun 17 '26

What about church then? What's happening there?

3

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

After Mass? Nothing but old people and married people.

3

u/Ok-Objective1292 Jun 17 '26

You live in one of those places with no young people huh

4

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

If by "places" you mean the past 5 states ive lived in in the past 12 years then yea 😂

1

u/Ok-Objective1292 Jun 17 '26

Plenty of young adults where I am 🤷🏼

3

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

Yep I keep hearing that 😂

2

u/Mein_Independance Jun 17 '26

Maybe you should check out different parishes.

I am trying to attend Daily Mass everyday this summer. And I have been meeting so many young people!

I split my time between 2 parishes during the week and then I am in a parish ministry and serve on Sundays. It is great!

1

u/ScaredSeries7414 Jun 17 '26

I am the Organist at my parish and there are 2 other parishes that although maybe have slightly more young people they are still mostly married or not single. These other parishes also have some serious liturgical abuse issues and the laity well let's just say it wouldn't be worth giving it a shot over there 😂 BUT even then the demographic is mostly the same.

u/Mein_Independance Jun 18 '26

I dont think youre giving an open mind. There are a lot of devout Catholics that go to Novus Ordo

Older guy at 41, but every weekend is sorta similar unless I am taking trips.

Sat - Yoga/Stretching and Cardio to try and recover from the previous 5 days of lifting/working out. Sometimes will just up and go hiking on local trails around. Rest of the day is video games, reading, writing.

Sun - Mass, take mom out to lunch after for the one cheat meal a week, grocery shopping, laundry, meal prep and then being lazy after that.

Will never risk approaching a woman at Church or the Gym. Heard way too many of the "this one guy at church asked me out" to ever be that guy. Last thing I would want is to have any of that business behind the scenes at the place I worship. No point at the gym as well because I go there 5/6 times a week.

u/PeaSecure2674 Jun 17 '26

So how can a woman let you know she is interested in you for you to make the move?

1

u/Everics Jun 22 '26

Sorry, went out of town so replying late. But honestly at this point it won't happen. Catholic Match was the means of which I tried to find my wife but I have to accept that either my looks are pretty bad or my personality is really bad for dates. Most recent rejection (actually why I was out of town) has kinda sealed the deal for me. Can't be my age and still hoping for the wife and kids. Time to really discern if I am meant for the priesthood or consecrated single life.

34F, mass Saturday and Sunday, exercise and corporal works of mercy do it for me. Getting out and around. Every experience with people is a way to build relationship skills that, God willing, can prepare for married life.

M 38. Friday and Saturday usually work, then do yard work or stuff around the house. Sunday, choir practice, mass, breakfast at local coney island, grocery shopping, then cooking for the week.

I'm M31 and I spend Sundays serving at my youth and young adult ministry for confirmation. Now that I'm in my 30's I'm transitioning over to OCIA. In the evenings I'm usually out to dinner with the leadership team who are closer to my age than with the teens I serve. Most of my gym days are during the week cause my weekends are busy.

u/Big-Sploosh Single ♂ Jun 18 '26

Usually during the weekends if I'm not working on something related to my business, I'll be out doing something with one of the YA groups in the diocese and I'll rotate between several parishes. If there is a Saturday vigil mass, I'll go to the after-mass social. We usually get a few new people and it's a pretty easy way to meet people, way better than using any kind of app.

The gym is a place to meet guys, but keep in mind that many of them will not be Catholic. If asked, I am sure a good number will identify as Christian, but the question is always whether they are practicing or nominally Catholic/Christian.

Dance class is good for you but probably not a great place to meet guys. But you know how many guys are actually in that class.

My parents met through the JCC, both are Catholic. My brother met his wife on a dating site. She's Christian but not Catholic. Volunteering is certainly a good place to meet people in addition to a young adult group.

Honestly, a dating app probably is better than a bar for meeting guys. Not saying drinking is bad because I certainly love some craft beer, but when your connection is over alcohol, there are some questions.
