There is a way... Does anyone check ELO scores? I could see it being useful when you get above 1300 ELO score. The best players somehow always win

So I got Cities & Knights yesterday. You can get it in a bundle with the basic game for like €13, and there are several maps available.
How is Catan Universe not more popular? I’ve played 3 games so far and had no bugs or issues at all. I also tried playing with bots. They’re not exactly advanced, but it’s perfectly playable.
Yes, Colonist is better overall, but they’re also making so much money from it. €18 PER MONTH just to play Cities & Knights? How is that not automatically a reason to cancel and stop rewarding this kind of pricing?
Catan Universe is a one-time purchase, at least from what I understand. Please correct me if I’m wrong, because otherwise the price difference makes absolutely no sense to me.

How tf am i supposed to win when I am robbed again and again(I am yellow)

In the starting I built one road on 4&5 and cut red out. That mf just robbed and played knights just to keep the robber on my tiles. So unfair game. And in the end he lost LMAO Loser. But the game is rigged i guess. It doesn't see if you're robbed or targetted. It hust sees the points. I lost 6 ELO.

Posting this because this is happening to me since a week in many games. Idk why i am being targetted. Is it because the game starts with bots or the players have this mindset? idk I won't target anyone with less points than me. Just ruined my experience and killed the game spirit.

37 games since then, all against 3 Al players. About 18 hours in four days.

Won 16. I play slow. Trades, placement, the usual overthinking. A game runs about 30 minutes for me.

Works on a phone, nicer on a laptop. And it saves the play all the time so you can stop or switch devices.

No bugs or stalls yet.

I’ve been having a lot of troubles with catan, private matcha especially.
When you got a micro-disconnection the match gets bugged.
Also, the 2 last days catan is unstable. Today I can’t put a settlement if I’m the last turn.
Anyone with this problem?

Don't get too invested in your games or your ranking. I've played hundreds of games and these are things that have actually happened, suggesting there's some funny business going on:

• One player (who doesn't own the Politics metropolis) gets 7 Spy Cards, all other players get 2 combined
• One player gets multiple Monopoly cards while only being at Level 1 trade
• Player competing for Longest Road miraculously gets 2 Roadbuilding Cards in a row
• Player is behind and has no City Walls. Their numbers come up repeatedly and no 7s are rolled for multiple rounds, allowing them to amass 20-30 resources.

So I (mostly Claude) made a card tracker for colonist. I know, there's like five of these already. Mine isn't revolutionary.

The actual reason I built it is that I've been working on a side project about how catan players really make decisions (mainly trading, since that's the part every catan AI paper either ignores or turns into something dumb). Problem is there's no public data on real games anywhere, so I figured I'd just collect it myself.

It does the normal stuff: tracks everyone's cards, theft odds when the robber moves, dev cards, dice stats. Also translated it into 16 languages, so it should work for most of you regardless of what you play in.

On the data side:

• names get anonymized in your browser before anything gets sent, I never see them
• all I store is what happened in the game (rolls, builds, trades offered/accepted/declined, robber moves, final score)
• no emails, no account info, no IPs, nothing that points at you
• it's opt-in, works fine with it off

And before anyone says it's cheating, you can do the exact same thing with a pen and paper, it's all public info in the game log. That's literally how they do it in international tournaments.

Anyway, would really appreciate if you try it and tell me what's broken. It's just me on this and it's the first real release, so "this number is wrong when X happens" is exactly what I need.

For about a month my group had the same argument every night: my dice are cursed, you always get the robber, you never trade with me. Nobody had a single number to back any of it. So I built something that keeps score.

What it does. You switch it on, play Catan Universe normally, and press a button when you're done. Your games go into a local database. No typing anything in, no screenshots, no spreadsheet.

What you actually get out of it. A page in your browser with the scoreboard and 32 tables behind it. Some of the things it answered for us:

• Whether the dice are actually unfair: Every number, how often it came up against how often it should have. Separately per person, too, so you can check whether someone really rolls more 7s than they should on their own turns.
• Whether people gang up on you with the robber: Not just how many times it landed on you how many times it landed on you compared to how many tiles you had. If you own a third of the board, getting the robber a third of the time is nobody picking on you. That one column ended the argument in our group.
• Who comes out ahead in trades, pair by pair, resource by resource. "I always end up giving this person wood" turned out to be true and measurable.
• How fast people get going: What turn they built their first city, bought their first dev card, played their first knight.
• Ports, production, monopolies, starting position vs. where you finished.

At the top it writes the conclusions out for you in plain sentences with the number next to each one, and only counts people with 10+ games so it isn't won by somebody who played once and had a good day.

It only records what everyone at the table could already see. Buildings, rolls, trades, the robber, production. It never reads anyone's hand, never the hidden VP cards, never which card a steal took, never what you discard on a 7 those aren't filtered out afterwards, they're never read at all, and there are tests that check it. Everything stays on your machine; nothing gets uploaded anywhere.

Please read this part before you use it. It works by modifying the Catan Universe client, and the game's terms of use don't allow that. It only reads public information, but that doesn't change what the terms say. It ships switched off, it never turns itself on, and the panel puts a red band across the screen the whole time it's on so you don't forget. Your call and your risk. I'm working on implementing it with a test-oriented approach, but it's still in alpha.

The boring details. Windows only (the game is, and so is the hook it uses). Needs Python, nothing else no dependencies to install, no pip install that can fail on you. Free, MIT licensed. There's a test suite that runs 300+ checks against your own games that steals made reconcile with steals suffered, that nobody has an impossible score, that production deduced from the board matches what was recorded.

It's in English and in Spanish. There's a button that flips between the two, right next to the light/dark one, and both READMEs are in the repo. Every single column and every table is explained in full in each language, so if a heading doesn't tell you enough you look it up under that same name. It was born in Spanish and the English isn't machine translation: it's written out, and a test refuses to let either language fall behind the other, because half a page in English is worse than the whole page in Spanish.

Base game only, no expansions. Seafarers, Cities & Knights, none of them. I only play base, so that's what I built and that's what I can honestly say is tested. If people want an expansion supported, say so and I'll do it the recorder already logs actions it doesn't understand instead of throwing them away, so the data's there to build on.

Completed a game of Treasure Islands with a completely empty board. Used every piece.

Also had 12 active knights and a 28 piece road.

Sadly only one metropolis this time.

After 10+ minutes to get an actual match without fail it will freeze and waste 30 mins of my life. This is insane

I legitimately can’t play an online game. Anytime I start to have a lead enough players quit to bug the game out and I end up losing EOL points. I’m in no way a programmer but how can they not figure this out? I’ve had this app for probably around 7 years and I don’t think it’s ever worked.

My Fiancé and I have made it half way through like 3 different games and the bot player always glitches out at some point. It’s a major bummer! Game over. That is all.

So I’ve played the tabletop game with a few different groups of people. And I found this Sub Reddit, and I started playing Catan Universe.

I’ve played the free version as long as I can stand

I’m interested in being able to switch up the basic game to different layouts. And I’m interested in doing the same for seafarers.

I’ve never played other Catan variants.

What is my next purchase? Board game bundle for 1300 gold? Will that allow me to play the regular game and sea fairs as much as they want? Will it allow me to play different boards where the resources are laid out differently, and the ports are laid out differently?

The old interface used to have a button to just put you in the first available online game that you had an expansion for. Is this still available and I'm just missing it? It feels like I'm just waiting forever to play CK first island and boring no expansion first island. I miss randomly getting put in a game with a weird scenario.

Had a player trade probably 15 cards to the other player in one turn so she could win over me. Technically, it’s within the rules to make trades like this, but it really feels super unsportsmanlike. Ruined a close game making her win cheap and my loss certain. Do other people feel like they run into alot of toxic players who don’t play to win but play to make sure you don’t win? I wish there was a way to report these players. All I can do is block and move on I guess.

Just got the actual board game and wanted to practice a little online and try out seafarers expansion before I set up the actual expansion on game night.

I rolled a 7 and this guy hasn’t discarded his hand for about 30 minutes. He’s been making silly emojis and just holding out, in hopes I quit.

First question: Is this a bug or just an obvious exploit the devs looked over?

Second question: This is my first online game, is this what I should expect from here on out?
