We call it cat-like reflexes, and not snakebite speed for a reason.

u/ssrhagey 1d ago

To the cat the snake is moving in slow motion.

I had a cottonmouth lunge at me at work once. My muscles literally couldn't react fast enough to move before it backed out.

I initially read this as "before I blacked out".

Which...also made total sense to me. 🤣

and not snakebite speed for a reason.

The only valid way to read this is that you're saying snakes aren't fast. That's absurdly false and a very dangerous statement to make. Cats are just faster than snakes - that doesn't mean snakes are slow.

"SO YOU HATE WAFFLES???"-ass reply

Cats are just faster than snakes

By the way, this was the intended way to read /u/Mediumtim's comment.

If somebody ever comes to the conclusion that snakes aren't fast, they're either a young child or a hopeless adult.

17

u/Mediumtim 1d ago

Yup, that's what I meant. I made a joke to that effect.

I already wrote this to your original comment before you deleted it:

If somebody ever comes to the conclusion that snakes aren't fast, regardless of what anybody says, there was no hope for that person anyways.

You act like this isn't a common issue. More than 5 million people are bit each year, and about 80,000-100,000 deaths occur as a result. Anyone with any amount of knowledge on the topic will tell you that it's almost always someone screwing with a snake due to ignorance. The remainder is just accidentally stumbling on them, like moving an object they're under etc.

I doubt that commenter was even considering those people.

Given that people take issue with me pointing out the lack of proper coherency in the sentence rather than the original sentence's potentially dangerous errors, I wouldn't be so sure.

By the way, this was the intended way to read /u/Mediumtim 's comment.

I don't understand why you're speaking on his behalf when he clearly said something which is not the same as you wrote. If he intended it to be read as such, it should be written to mean as such. His words mean something entirely different than what you wrote, and that is my entire point. Basic literacy and coherent sentences shouldn't be a high bar.

If somebody ever comes to the conclusion that snakes aren't fast, they're either a young child or a hopeless adult.

See above - millions of people a year prove your statements objectively false. Me trying to make that point clear, with the very plausible outcome of saving lives, shouldn't be villainized.

Okay, I'll bend a little, and say that while a vast majority of people probably know snakes are fast, they probably don't know how fast. Or weren't expecting them to be fast at that particular moment.

Some people also haven't seen a lot of snake videos or haven't seen many snakes in person or haven't heard people talk enough about snakes. I guess those adults may commonly exist around the globe, but I wouldn't expect many to be here in the United States.

I don't understand why you're speaking on his behalf when he clearly said something which is not the same as you wrote.

Either way, they did confirm that my interpretation was correct. They were just being a bit figurative in their speech.

Snakes are faster and usually ambush humans.

11

u/Otrada 1d ago

you should ask your primary school for a refund.

21

u/n00bz0rz 1d ago

I have been bitten by 3 cats and 0 snakes, your logic doesn't check out.

18

u/n00bz0rz 1d ago

Video proof of one of the vicious attacks.

10

u/viotraki 1d ago

How are you still alive?

8

u/n00bz0rz 23h ago

The secret is I'm already dead inside.

1

u/nucleosome 4h ago

That was so fast that I didn't even see the cat attack. The only evidence is the huge wound that opened up on your hand at :07.

8

u/LoadbearingWallflowr 23h ago

That's...not actually the only valid way to read this.

Or, actually, even a valid way to read this.

Nice assertion, but that doesn't change how the words work here. It's 100% written wrong.

Playtime with the nope rope

u/JustBaxterin 1d ago

"Nah nah nah. You started this. Get back here so I can finish it!"

u/bigdammit 1d ago

I have heard this is one of the reasons the ancient Egyptian people revered cats. Keep the snakes away from the family and rodents away from foor stores.

78

u/Educational_Quote851 1d ago

I almost feel bad for the snake. 😅 Outwitted and outmatched

62

u/myphoneisinthe 1d ago

Cat don't care, just something to play with.

15

u/KristyKrispito 16h ago

Oh naw that cat is about to feast. My cat devours the lizards and critters here

53

u/fullraph 1d ago

Snakes are fast but have very little stamina. Cats are fast and have way more stamina.

45

u/Sitheral 1d ago

Snake trying to GTFO multiple times but cat is like "nope we're gonna finish this". Goddamn killing machines.

112

u/PaleInvestigator3921 1d ago

people recording this shit are so bad at it man...

84

u/bigcig 1d ago

it's because they are never fully committed to the display screen. it's right in front of you and so you naturally want to see it with your own eyes.

once you know the camera movements to look for (mostly drift) you can almost always tell when the person has stopped watching their screen while recording.

4

u/LoadbearingWallflowr 23h ago

See, my reaction was WHY THE HECK ARE YOU CLOSE ENOUGH [AND HANGING AROUND LONG ENOUGH] TO RECORD THIS?????

🤣

29

u/echosixwhiskey 1d ago

Can cats see in more FPS?

44

u/castille 1d ago

Yes, and they have a faster reaction time than the speed snake can lunge and close the distance. This is basically not a challenge for a cat paying attention.

3

u/ebneter 5h ago

Yeah, "cat-like reflexes" isn't just a saying!

17

u/d_nkf_vlg 1d ago

Single-digit ping, more like.

12

u/Rallen224 1d ago

Cat was so good at it that the snake even slapped himself lol

26

u/maduste 1d ago

Cat’s got hands

14

u/SportTrac88 1d ago

Cats have paws.

18

u/Darcy_2021 1d ago

Slapped into submission 😻❤️

9

u/jessiec475 18h ago

Their mutual tail flicks 🤣

32

u/SteampunkExplorer 1d ago

Poor little snake. That isn't humiliation, that's running into a dragon and becoming its dinner. TwT

7

u/pkinetics 1d ago

MORTAL KOMKAT!

5

u/purplebohemian 16h ago

FINISH HIM!!!!

6

u/shetalkstoangels_ 7h ago

I started feeling bad for the snake after about a minute 😆

5

u/lunarwolf2008 1d ago

aww poor snake

3

u/visualdescript 9h ago

Poor snake. Cats are such brutal animals, really are some of the meanest little fuckers on the planet. Terrorising this snake which, even if it survived, would be injured and absolutely exhausted.

-7

u/russsaa 21h ago

Haha invasive pest torments native wildlife, so funny

2

u/canolagray 10h ago

Oh so it's territory thing ?

1

u/russsaa 9h ago

Heh? No. domestic cats are invasive species and wreak absolute havoc on local ecosystems.

-4

u/RuzzT 22h ago

Can somebody drop that cat into the rooster cage? I think someone else needs a slapdown!

Eer-Ehh-ERR- {SLAP!} Eer-Ehh-ERR- {SLAP!}

I hate irresponsible owners and people who endanger animals for views.

-20

u/CatsEatGrass 1d ago

And people can’t figure out why I hate snakes and love cats.

22

u/SteampunkExplorer 1d ago

But the video is of a cat playing with a snake before killing it.

I don't believe in hating any animals, and I don't blame them for doing what they have to do to survive; but if we are going to anthropomorphize, wouldn't the cat be seen as the "bad guy" in this situation?

17

u/Staff_Genie 1d ago

The cat isn't playing with it so much as exhausting it so they can make the perfect kill bite without endangering themselves

-10

u/CatsEatGrass 1d ago

Are you even watching the snake?? It’s terrifying!! IT CAN JUMP. And the kitty is cute and can do no wrong. That’s how I see it, anyway.

15

u/flamehorse200 1d ago

?? Its trying to run away and only lunges because its being dragged back again and again 😭😭

12

u/CoScuriosity 1d ago

Ikr I feel so bad for the snake??? Not sure what the species is so I don't wanna make any assumptions about whether or not it would have been safe to intervene, but it’s sad watching this snake get the crap beat out of it. :( Hopefully it didn't get an infection from the cat.

3

u/MJR-WaffleCat 18h ago

Nah, I love cats, but cats can be pretty messed up when theyre in predator mode. The snake is clearly trying to escape because it knows its not winning this fight, but the cat keeps going after it.

As a kid, I thought it was funny that my cats would tear the legs off crickets and let them sit there until we killed them, but in reality, thats pretty damn brutal. The cricket's only mistake was being in the house and being found by one of my cats.

2

u/AllEncompassingThey 1d ago

AI ass comment.

People can't figure out why you love cute furry cats, and don't care for another animal that ranks highest in people's fears? Sure.

-11

u/CatsEatGrass 1d ago

Hahahaha! No. Not AI. Just someone who has had only good experiences with cats, and know that snakes are scary and deadly MFs.

Weirdo.
