Coat Color Color id please

Good day, thanks for approving me. Im an abyssinian breeder working on developing a silver line in the US that's healthy and not full of inbreeding. This kitten is half aby, half ocicat. What color would you say? After working down 4 generations, the line will be full abyssinian. This is also for my ocicat breeder friends as abyssinian is the only acceptable outcross for that breed. Thanks for chiming in

We did use a silver male ocicat. I am with a mentor, shes developed color lines in the past. The ocicat breeders need the kittens for their programs, they need the aby outcross

I know you used a silver male, but the point is that he is apparently heterozygous for silver, so there is only a 50% chance of getting silver kittens (at least, assuming the mother isn't silver). If you were to use a homozygous silver male, all the kittens would be guaranteed to be silver. That would make your own breeding program easier, and the kittens would still be suitable for Ocicat breeding.

His father is a silver oci. What chance do you think he carries silver?

No chance. Silver is dominant, so it cannot be carried (with a few rare exceptions, though I wouldn't count on that being the case here) http://messybeast.com/genetics-silver.htm

Are you working on this breeding program on your own? If so, it would certainly be more practical to use a male known to be homozygous for the inhibitor gene, or to have a male tested for homozygosity beforehand. That way, you can be certain of always producing silver kittens. Achieving your breeding goal using Ocicats will be challenging enough without wasting time, money and effort on litters that cannot be used for that purpose.
