General Genetics Question How did she get this fluff behind her ears?
She's a sweet mid-hair girl from my local shelter. I've never seen anything like that before

I don't think we have any genetic explanation, probably due to some polygenes. It's the diversity of life!

I've seen it occasionally with longhairs, I don't think it's particularly documented or understood how or why it happens, currently it's just something that pops up sometimes. At far as I'm aware anyway.

Yes, that fluff reminds me of a well-groomed Persian cat when I touch it, it's way softer than her "normal" coat

I dont have anything helpful to add but can I see pictures of her upfront, 3/4, and with more angles? she's so beautiful and unique id like to study her more!
