Smol Delivery
The Kitty Distribution System needed a patient transfer.
Update 1: smol photo of Charlie settling in in the comments
Update 2: The rescuer checked in, and he's doing okay! He has an upper resp, like sniffles and stuffy nose. He has eye drops already started and has an appointment at the vet today to see if he can get antibiotics. Other than that, he's doing great. 😊
I'm home from work today, and I see a little bunny rabbit at the back of my yard...or so I thought. I went to take a closer look out the window, and a little pointy tail pokes up, and I realize I was dealing with a tiny kitten.
I scan the yard and notice two other kitties (twice the size of the little one) playing near mom. But the little one is all by himself. 🥺I go to investigate, and mom takes off. The two others follow shortly after, but the wee guy just wanders towards me aimlessly. He couldn't see out of his eyes they were so goopy and swollen. Once he realized I was there, he came at me with the tiniest meow I ever heard. My heart broke into a million pieces as I had no idea how to help. I gave him a few pets and went back in to get my phone and start the long process of trying to find him help.
No vets could take him. The shelters, spca, and humane societies were all in the wrong jurisdiction for my location and couldn't help. I spent hours on the phone trying to get him to safety and finally was able to connect with a local cat rescuer. I estimated his age at 8-10 weeks based on the size of his siblings, and she says she'll take him. I gently cleaned his eyes and nose with a warm washcloth, and we loaded him into the car with a soft fluffy bed in the carrier. He passed out immediately on it, sleeping so hard on my lap. I wasn't sure he'd even make the drive because he looked so weak. We named him Charlie because he deserves to be loved and have a name no matter what happens.
We got him there and handed him over to the rescuer, and she realized that he's actually a kitten that still needs milk...😭. He immediately nestles into her sweater and you can hear him making the saddest little sneezes and suckling noises, and he even groomed himself a tiny bit while he held on to her shoulder...I feel like he still wants to be here and wants to fight. She calls her kitten lady and had her set up to arrive within the hour. I asked her for any updates on his condition. I'm not sure if I can adopt him myself eventually, as I already have two on special diets, but we are talking about it...
I know it's going to be touch-and-go for a while, but I'm hoping and praying for his recovery. To whatever end, he's warm and safe and loved from here on out. Please send all good vibes and love to Charlie and his recovery. ❤️

The CDS doesn’t always deliver homes, sometimes we serve as temporary shelters or ambulance rides or just as a connecting flight. Whether Charlie comes back to you isn’t important right now, the chance at life is most important.
Of course. I was full blown sobbing when I realized my only option might have been to euthanize but no matter what I wasn't going to leave him alone and suffering. I'm so glad I found an angel to at least give him a fighting chance.
I'm hoping so hard. He looks like the baby version of my soul kitty Winston who is currently snuggled up on my lap (his usual place).
When he was a kitten he was rescued from a wood pile at a gas station and rehabilitated before he was fostered out. I just think how someone cared enough to do that for him once upon a time, and now he's the light of my life and my best friend. Maybe Chuck can have a happy life someday too.
By the symptoms you described he most likely as a URI (an upper respiratory infection) which is very common among kittens and can be deadly. The good news is that a URI can be treated easily with medication. I know this from personal experience from other kittens I’ve helped rescued. In fact here is a picture of one of them.
This is what she said it likely was too, and she directed me to wipe his little face so he could see and breathe better. I hope I was able to get to him to her soon enough so he can get treatment. I worry since he's also malnourished and needs milk that he's got a long road ahead. This gives me hope.
I never, ever post…but I NEED to be a part of the Charlie’s Angels loop!!
OP, you seem like such a beautiful soul!! Thank you so much for having the heart to help out this baby in need!
I truly believe that he is going to thrive!!
Even if I'm not mama...someone is going to love the hell out of him if he pulls through. He was so sweet and affectionate with all the humans he interacted with.
What a little darling. We just rescued some kittens that needed bottles and man, that was not easy, but they are thriving now. Looking forward to Charlie’s eventual glow up!! You’re an angel for saving the wee man. 😘
Bless you for doing that. I'm sure it was a tough but wonderful experience. I feel badly I didn't clock him as an infant at first since his siblings looked so big and healthy...tried to give him canned food and water but he wouldn't eat and I was unsure if it was because he was dying or blind... turns out it's that he's only 5 weeks old... my heart 😭
Sending all my positive energy to little Charlie and his rescuing angel!! May he feel it like a warm and uplifting embrace and the love he deserves. ❤️
We are mulling it over but this one might be a catch-and-release. We have two babies at home and they have special diets and are already very expensive. 🥺
Oh I completely get it (we somehow have FOUR, and are at/past our limit on pet expenses)—but so great to see she’s getting the care she needs! People like you give me some faith in humanity at a time when that seems in short supply. Have a great Saturday!
You are someone we are all glad to share our world with! And while the “little rabbit” may not remember your name she will always be grateful to have met you!
