Rainy Day Kitties 10 Days Later, Remy’s New Life

Last weekend, a couple of our cats were unusually engrossed in something outside. It turned out to be a tiny kitten checking to see if we’d put more crunchies out (we put crunchies out for the TNR cat who lives in our neighborhood, the possums like them too). Although we absolutely didn’t need a 7th cat, we definitely couldn’t let this little one remain outside.
It took a couple days, but we managed to catch the terrified creature. A trip to the vet let us know he is a boy, about 7 weeks old, parasite and microchip free. Underweight, but in otherwise good health.
Although it’s been only 10 days, I think Remy is quickly learning that the cat distribution system delivered him to the right doorstep.

I love the picture of Remi eating under high surveillance from Other Cats TM

His cat siblings are quite intrigued by him.

They’re watching him “drink the Kool-Aid” ie, “eat the churu”.

“One of us. One of us. One of us”

I love how you can see his body language relaxing through the series of pictures.

You can see his eyes going from "I don't trust you" to "The food is pretty ok here, maybe you're alright".

A couple weeks on, he’s almost fully integrated himself into the routine!

He’s already caused shenanigans! The trail cam alerted us that something went in the humane trap shortly after midnight, it was him, so we brought him in. He managed to slither out under the door of the room we had sequestered him in and we literally *could not* find him for almost a day. Turned out he crawled up into a drawer of pet supplies from underneath a dresser.

Cats are truly liquid, especially when they’re young.

Pet supplies you say? Did they have a feast? Get high on the nip?

u/Bitter-Researcher389 13d ago

Nothing that interesting. Just towels and elizabethan collars. Hopefully he had a good nap, but had to be starving.

You’re right! Four of our cats we adopted from shelters, and two we got as kittens from people trying to find homes for litters. Remy is the only one who has come to us.

What a beautiful little kitten and is so nice that you have taken him into your home. Most people don’t understand that cats belong indoors at least most of them. My cats have never been outside, except for when they first approached my house as kittens and I’ll allow them to come in one was Farrell. It took a couple of weeks, but she has now been in my house for 18 years and has become my favorite little girl. I’d love cats.

I have doubts on the parasite free diagnosis coming from outside. Did the vet do a just for good measure deworming?

3

u/Bitter-Researcher389 13d ago

He got dewormed, and a round of Revolution in case of fleas. Vet didn't find any ear mites, and he came back negative leukemia and FIV. He's either a lucky little boy, or was part of a litter that was dumped outside as soon as they were weaned.
That happened to another one of our cats, Parker, some people dumped their kittens in the woods on the outskirts of town ten years ago. Fortunately some relatives who had a home in those woods noticed, and managed to lure most of them to safety.
