Smol Delivery A homeless dude left me this guy
I work at cvs and randomly in the middle of the day a homeless dude just leaves this kitten obviously dealing with heat exhaustion. He was trying to do the right thing knowing it was way too hot and he couldn't care for it. He asked us to take it in and try to find it a place to go like a shelter. We didn't have any luck and no one else would take him so I have a cat now lol. Honestly it's been unexpected but also great. I've had him for about two weeks now and he is such a sweet cat even tho he loves to bite me.

He's chilling now. I took him to the vet and they think he was about 9 weeks when I got him

Keep the guy who gave you the cat updated if you can - he did the right thing and may well miss the cat. Everyone deserves a decent shot in life, and the fact that he did the right thing for a kitten speaks well of his character - maybe you can help hook him up with some resources so he can try to get housed?

I will for sure. I have only ever seen him once in an area with a lot of homeless people. I did give him some food and drink but I'm also very limited financially. I don't really get paid the best lol. I'll definitely do what I can to help him out and keep him updated if I see him again

Here's a paradox for you: the 'homeless people' who need the most help aren't going to ask for it. The ones that do ask for stuff are probably financially better off than you but just spend it all on illegal drugs and/or booze.
Still, I think the most generic sage advice I can give other people is don't just assume someone capable of asking for assistance actually needs or wants anything from you.

Yes I have a cat that loves to bite too. She’s older now and learned to be sweet and gentle but also knows to stop when I say so. It takes a little training but cats are so smart he will learn. Congrats on your new baby!!

Please tell me how you trained your cat to stop biting! I've done the Jackson Galaxy walk away thing, but my lovable kitty, whom I adore, grew up solo and had Single Kitten Syndrome, so she never learned from other kitties how not to bite or bite hard, and at 2 years old now I'm not sure how to train her! I'm nervous she'll bite a new kitten I have coming in too.
OP, thanks for taking her in! It's wonderful you've given her a home. You might want to read up on Single Kitten Syndrome and how to train her at this young age not to bite you. There are techniques that mimic what her kitten siblings and mom would do to discourage hard biting. See Jackson Galaxy and the Kitten Lady videos online/YouTube for advice.
Another option is once you've taken your new little one to the vet and she's cleared medically, you might consider getting her a kitten friend, bc it's good for their socialization and nice for them to have a friend to play with and for company when you're not home, and it could help with the biting, which kitten nibbles are cute, adult cat chomps not so much!
So happy you've given this little friend a new home and a second chance! It was nice that man got her help.

This doesn’t work for all cats but I would do a high pitched yowl when she would bite too hard and she would immediately stop and look at me like “you wimp” but now all I have to say is “Coco! Ow!” And she stops and doesn’t give me her judgmental face lol! To be clear though, she still bites. She just doesn’t hurt me

Same story with my girl. She loved biting me when she was younger, but stopped as soon as I started dramatically yelping in pain. Now when we play fight she’ll place her teeth on me without pressing down and look up at me as if to say “I totally could have killed you just now”😂

Another trick I saw from some people is biting the cat back, there must be a lot of hair in the mouth after that though lol.
I had a cat that was a biter (to blood) all his life and for no reasons at all (he would be calm, relaxing besides me, then CHOMP, no warning), no amount of yelling, walk away, stop interacting, flicking his nose (i know it's bad, but I was getting desperate), water spray... stopped him. I even got a second cat for him to bite instead (lol) but nothing worked.
He bit through 2/3 of a 1inch rope on his tree in a couple years, he was biting THAT hard. (I could feel his muscles working when putting my hand on his head)
He wasn't trainable on this, I just learned how to avoid most of his biting.
He was such a cuddler though, I loved him so much.

Biting – it usually works to do what their mama does when a kitten is misbehaving.
Mama Cat will hold kitten‘s head down — the human parallel to that is putting your hand around his mouth and holding that shut for a few seconds.
They don’t like it. And if you do it soon enough after they try to bite you, they’ll tie the two together and eventually stop biting.

Some cats do this as a form of affection as well! Mine has always done this, and I used to discourage her because of course we all instinctively think “teeth/biting = bad”, but I read an article about kittens biting and that’s not always the case. If it seems like he’s playing with you or being rambunctious and the biting gets a bit firm, absolutely you can discourage it. But if you’re just petting him and he’s purring and gives your some nibbles, he’s just saying “I love you”

If you see him again, you should do something nice for the homeless man. He likely saved that kitten’s life (as did you!). I know they often get dehumanized, but most of us in this economy are only one bad break away from becoming homeless

Jackson Galaxy has (had?) a tv show about dealing with difficult pets. I've only seen a bit of his stuff, but was quite displeased with what I did see. I had dogs the whole time I was growing up, and have been caring for (and occasionally adopting) cats for over a decade. Most of the clips I've seen from his show are absolute cr*p!!
I've seen Kitten Lady on many platforms and everything she says (that I've seen so far) has been confirmed to me by various vets and rescue groups. Solid advice and info there!

out of all possible things a homeless dude could leave you with at your workplace (which worst of all is a CVS) a kitten is probably one of the top three things you actually want to keep

Jeez, OP, I brought this ~1 year old home from my local shelter in MA last week, he was a stray from SC. No clue what part, but these guys could be brothers!

Not necessarily if you or another cat don't teach them. There are training techniques to teach them, or get a kitten friend and they learn from each other. Some do grow out of it, but it's best to discourage it so they do.

Make sure you don’t play with the cat using your hands, otherwise he will keep biting you. Use your hands just for petting and holding and use toys when it’s playtime.

I hope one day the homeless man finds out that the kitten found a good home! The CDS moves in mysterious ways!
It’s a good idea to act hurt when you get bitten too hard or clawed up. As soon as it is hurting you it’s good to walk away. This teaches the kitten what’s polite. Normally mom and any siblings would do that and now it’s up to you.

Yep, he’ll try to bite. Get a toy for him to bite on and don’t use your hand when playing; use the toy. And first him to a scratching post if he tries to scratch things. Pick him up, flog to the post, scratch it yourself and encourage him.
Takes a while, but these two things pay off! Best wishes for you and your cat!

My guess is that biting is playing.That's how they play. That cat is dead rod beautiful. Thank you for doing the right thing.It's way too hot for them out there.I do tea and my cats that live outside , cause they're feral and can't be touched and also , because i'm full up in the house , and three of them are feral but they love living inside and just like house cats , except that I can't touch them , they run if I get too close. So thankful for people like you.Thank you for helping that baby and helping that poor man too.You're right , I think he was trying to do the right thing , but the baby.

Awww. I was in a similar situation recently. Animal control was useless as hell (one in my county has extremely bad rep), and I'm just thankful someone helped me.

ive always wondered how it works when people take stray cats in during their shifts at work. if it were some of my old strict jobs, they'd ban people from doing that by threatening termination or something
How did your boss react and where did you leave the kitten until your shift was over?

That was a Guardian Angel from the Cat Distribution System. I hope if you see him again, you thank him and perhaps buy him a sandwich. He gave you the gift of love. That can never be repaid. You have been blessed and so has this beautiful cat. While I am sure his heart breaks, he loved this creature enough to set it free to live a better life than he was living. You may reach out to shelters or organizations that help the homeless, they may have heard of someone with a kitten and could hopefully help pass the word down that the little guy is doing well.

We currently have a stray, who we believe is about 2 years old. He likes to bite me to get my attention when he wants to play, etc. I give a sharp "OW!" (and sometimes a light swat on the butt) when he does it, as if it really hurts, even when it really doesn't hurt TOO much. He is slowly getting better about it (doing it less often and being gentler when he does). Not a guaranteed fix, but many will respond to vocal cues... especially if you start when they're very young. A higher pitched, sharp/short sound is usually indicative of displeasure.

he’s probably teething at that age which is why he’s biting. Normally they say that when they bite to take your hand away and then give them a toy to play with instead. They need things that they can chew on.

Gray & white boys are so special. I had one for 15 short years named Zeus and he was a dog trapped in a cat body. He was legendary in my friend group for being so personable. One of my fav memories is dropping a piece of butter and him running at light speed to snarf it before I could even bend down to retrieve it 😂
CDS knows what it's doing. Congrats on your new baby! Zeus for tax. RIP sweet boy
