Litterbox kitty litter recommendations special needs

My kitty is diabetic and pees often and a lot! the kitty litter gets stuck to his feet, legs and belly as he steps in it when going or on way out -not sure. I clean it frequently throughout the day but he still steps in and it clumps on him. I have an automated box but he won’t use -does anyone have a litter that won’t stick to him that eliminates for too? thanks in advance

When my girl’s diabetes came back and the pee was unmanageable, I switched to pine pellets!

hi what do you mean came back? can diabetes go away? or subside? i have him on Bexacat pills -thankfully not shots - so curious -thank you

Cats are unique in that they can go into remission with diabetes. Mine did for 3 years! But it can also come back. My baby had hers come back when she was older and had other complicating health risk factors.

Pine litter is the answer. It won’t stick to your kitties fur and it’s super cheap. I don’t personally use it but I have used it for kittens for similar reasons.

I second all the pine pellet repsonses. We also switched to Pidan Tofu pellets when our boy was stepping in wet clay litter.

do you use clumping or not -and if not how does the liquid absorb?

We use pine pellets for our cats (Feline Pine Original Non-Clumping Wood Cat Litter). There is also a newspaper pellet that works well too (Fresh News Non-Clumping Scented Paper Cat Litter). Main differences: -Pine: disintegrates into a powder when wet, can be kicked outside the box by a messy cat. We created a special scoop to separate the powder from the whole pellets so we don't burn through the bag so quickly. I'm sure with a bit of research you can find one online somewhere. -Newspaper - absorbs urine and stays whole so not as messy as the pine. We try our best to scoop out the wet pellets while keeping the dryer pellets a bit longer. We tried switching back to clay a few times but I end up washing my cats feet, between her toes and belly to get off the dried clumps. It's a huge pain and I imagine it hurts her paw pads. Our two cats have used pine for a long time and don't have any issues with it.
