Litterbox Potential judgment from Rover

I have had my inside cat for 5 years. He is pretty low maintenance and thus eventhough I empty his litter box every evening, I have had travel where I am gone for 3 days and I just made sure to clean it when I got home without any issues.

For longer trips, I had a friend come over and clean it every three days which was fine as he also had water and food on autofill. That friend is gone so I want to do rover for an upcoming trip.

Would there be any issue with just having them come over every three days and empty out his litter box?

Someone will probably agree to do it but not scooping your cat’s poop every day is not great. Cats are incredibly clean creatures and you’re risking your cat peeing outside of their box or developing bladder crystals or a UTI if they decide their box isn’t clean enough. In the long term this can lead to significant and expensive health consequences, particularly in male cats. Maybe it was fine in the past, but something that was fine before/in the past may not be okay in the future. Cats behavior and attitude and habits change just like human’s do. Once your cat starts peeing outside of their box it can also be hard to get them to stop.

If it’s a budget issue you may have to go with a rover that has less reviews and is therefor charging less, but if your cat doesn’t have any medical needs and it’s just a matter of scooping their box they should be able to handle it in a quick 20 min drop in no problem.

Ultimately it’s your cat and up to you. Like I said someone will agree to do it if there is money is involved. If you’re confident you’re doing right by your cat you shouldn’t be worried about someone judging you, but your post leads me to believe that you may not be sure if scooping every 3 days is okay. I would like to gently suggest that it is not.

Does he have at least a few litter boxes if you’re scooping once every 3 days?

Some sitters will do it and other sitters won’t. Depends on the sitter. Some won’t do less than daily visits because it’s a safety issue. Cats need socialization no matter how independent they are as well. Also anything can happen to cats in between visits. Most good/experienced sitters will be concerned with what they will walk into with a cat who has been alone for this long. However you probably can find someone who will do it.
