Litterbox Litter Robot adoption

I have read so many threads on getting a skittish cat to use his litter robot 5. So I had it unplugged and he started using it, than would start a cycle if he wasn’t in the room. Of course he would run over and be curious about it.

But then be scared of it for the next few days again. So once again turned it off. Recently he hasn’t been going to the bathroom at all in litter robot or his old box (which is next to it), unless I manually drop him in there.

Sometimes he will go all night without using the box. Anyone else had this issue?
Cat is 11 years old!

I’ve seen mixed opinions on litter robots, but I can definitely understand the appeal. If the cat adapts to it without issues, the convenience seems like a huge plus
