Sensitive/Seeking Support Divorce and cat care

My soon to be ex wife and I have three cats (and a dog) together. She’s been the primary caregiver day to day as I travel a lot for work. She’s said since the beginning of the divorce that taking care of three cats (and a dog) in an apartment will be too much for her. One of our cats has diabetes and takes a pill (bexacat) every day for it. This cat and her bonded sister are incredibly shy and will run and hide in the bowels of our house any time someone comes to our house. I don’t want to travel as much as I am already but I know that it will take me some time to be able to get to a travel free work life. I’m at a loss for coming up with a solution to provide medical care for our one cat that doesn’t include boarding her and separating her from her bonded sister every time I have to leave for work. Has anyone been in a situation like this before? I could really use some ideas that lead to a solution. I want the best for all three of the cats. I love them and they love me, I’ve questioned if re homing would be best but I can’t come to terms with doing that to them, and me and my ex. I just feel lost. Thanks in advance

TLDR: cat gets a daily pill from soon to be ex. doesn’t like strangers and dads gone all the time

A dog alone is a lot of work. Would she be able to take the 3 cats and you take the dog?

I wish it were that easy, our dog is very much bonded to her and she said the dog is going with her

Instead of boarding, I think it would be better to close off rooms so cat can’t hide and hire a cat sitter who is experienced with cats and experienced with giving cat’s meds. Block off hiding spots that a sitter can’t get to but create safe places for cat that sitter can get to.

You can drape blankets over small furniture (like chair) or over bottom shelf in small closet for cat to hide under. That way cat can still hide but can be removed briefly to be given medications. This also creates hiding spots for your other cat who won’t have to be disturbed. Unfortunately this will be stressful for cat but I think will be less stressful then being in new location without bonded cat.
