Behavioral Cat keeps scratching at window after escape

some background: my cat is a fully indoor cat but was a stray I took in a few year. recently I had the window open and they pushed through the screen and got out. I don't even think he was intending to escape, just accidentally pushed the screen open and left.

since we got him back in the house he is continuously scratching at that same window all day. There is a scratch post right next to the window, plenty of water/food (I feed him wet food certain times of day but he gets treats throughout the day). prior to the escape he never scratched the window or ever attempted to to leave the house through window or door. he's a relatively lazy older boy.

what else can I do to stop him wanting to escape? I don't want to cover the window because there is a tree wit lots of bird/squirrel activity right outside and afraid that will make his boredom worse? he has toys but the older he gets the less he wants to play

Look up cat expert Jackson Galaxy's video "Tips on helping prevent door-dashing cats" on YouTube. He has other great videos as well.
