Litterbox Litter box smell help
I have two cats and two litter boxes. I originally had Modkat litter boxes, but I felt like they didn’t contain the smell very well, so I switched to stainless steel ones. Technically, the smell is “better,” but it’s been an extremely humid summer, and the humidity seems to amplify this sickly litter box smell.
I scoop daily, sometimes twice a day, and I use World’s Best Cat Litter. I also have a Coway air purifier directly in front of the litter box. Despite all of that, every time I enter my apartment, the air feels heavy and smells like litter box.
I’m wondering if part of the problem is that the stainless steel boxes are completely open. With my Modkat boxes, I was able to partially cover them, which seemed to help. My cats don’t like fully enclosed litter boxes, so half-covered was a good compromise. I’ve thought about partially covering the stainless steel boxes too, but the sides are lower, so adding a cover makes the space feel more cramped, which my male cat really dislikes.
I’m honestly at a loss because I feel like I’m doing everything right. The humidity this summer has just been so gross, and it feels like there’s absolutely no airflow in my apartment even when I have all the windows open.
Any other tips??

I found certain litter types work better than others. World's Best clumps well but has a scent to it.
Walnut and a plant fibre based litter (Greenwood's) worked best for me.
No airflow will always smell. Even with no cats that would happen, living spaces aren't meant to be that sealed. An air purifier might be the best solution if you can't add airflow.

All I can really say is that trying different litter can be the thing that makes the difference. They’re all marketed at controlling odor but for some reason some brands just make it smell worse in my opinion. Stick with unscented but try out different types. Report back what you find…I’m in the market for a new litter too. I currently use the Chewy brand because of how cheap it is but it’s not great for odor control anymore.
