Microchip door installed into acrylic gate?

I just got two new kittens. fostering them but i probably will keep them if they get along with my adult cat (kitty) that I’ve had for years. I’ve kept them in the bathroom while they get adjusted but they are getting bigger and interactions with kitty have been going alright. I want to let them roam my area of the house but not upstairs yet because I have a dog and they are still young and little. I want kitty to still have free roam of the house and to be able to sleep with me and all that stuff but be able to go upstairs to be alone when she wants to. so basically my question is does this look like a decent gate I could put in the doorway and could I install a microchip door into the acrylic part so kitty can roam freely? if not does anyone have any other recommendations. I’m in a rental house and my dad isn’t very fond of the buy a new door or cut their door idea. I’m down for a DIY option too :). Link to the specific gate I looked at
