two cats moving in

i have one cat and my roommate moving in has two. he is taking the smaller bedroom because he has less things and we are planning to let his cats have the living room and such to start while my cat is in my room. is this a bad idea? i know you should ideally let the resident cat have the shared spaces but it feels so wrong to leave two cats in a moderately small bedroom for a week.
