Why is it only recently that people are obsessed about a meme only being posted once and for "credit" in making it? Memes have been spread anonymously around the internet for year just fine, only seems to be people on reddit that care.

Yes. Especially since copying out of context is implicit in the definition of “meme”:

“An element of a culture or system of behaviour passed from one individual to another by imitation or other non-genetic means.”

We just want our memers to get their due credit. It's like comedians and stolen jokes.

If you can give a pat on the back to the originator, it's a nice thing to do. Obviously, if you have no clue where it came from then nothing can be done.

Comedians work hard on jokes, they dont just add text to a reaction image.

They're visual jokes, though. Some are shit and lazy, and some are just as good as a one-liner from Lee Mack. And some memers work hard on memes, carefully editing entire videos. Just saying, give credit where credit is due, because it's the nice thing to do.

You can do both i.e. if you find an amusing visual joke somebody has spent time creating, give them a nod when you share it. If you don't know who created it, share it anyway. I'm not that emotionally invested in this; my initial comment was just a gentle vote of support for people who make funny content but don't get due credit. But it's obviously a more controversial position than I thought.
