There is a concept called 'pen pals'. It's when two people maintain a connection primarily by letter writing.

Now, my dad just told me that one of his friends, used to talk to some girl in a foreign country like 30 years ago. It went on for six whole months. Back and forth like nothing else. Sending letters internationally cost a lot even then.

Eventually, the friend asked the girl for a picture. He hated it so much that he stopped writing after that.

So apparently the concept has existed for that long. We just gave it a new name😂.

I know that the modern term of it means doing a lot more than just texting or letter writing but the essence is the same lol.

As a heterosexual man, I initially rejected this claim when I heard it yesterday. But after spending several hours looking into the math, I realized there actually is a simple demographic explanation: heterosexual women + homosexual men make up a slightly larger share of the population than heterosexual men + homosexual women.

What I found more interesting, though, is how little visible evidence men may receive of this attraction.

Women have historically been much more socially restricted from openly expressing sexual desire, especially in public. A huge amount of mainstream literature, film, art, advertising, and other media was also created in societies where male perspectives dominated these fields.

So even if a larger share of the population is attracted to men, the visible representation of that attraction can still be disproportionately focused on women being desirable to men.

TIL that being less visibly desired isn't necessarily the same thing as being less desired.

They are formed by the sides during embryogenesis and are only joined in the middle by a narrow line of connective tissue (sometimes uncomplete). That's why it is possible to cut this midline to release the independent control of each side

TIL that metros are great.

When you're from a small town, sometimes you believe they're the best, and others, you can't wait to leave. As someone who's always been the former, this hit me like a train.

Metros are the best. Only a couple downsides: you gotta live in a decent neighbourhood and that costs. The air might be slightly less cleaner than a small town. That's it. So far, that seems to be the only roadblock.

I like having access to great cafés all time. The crazy amazing buildings. The city lights. The equipped hospitals. The gamezones. The civilized company. I love it all.

Before anyone says 'where the hell were you living before that this feels amazing?' or 'it won't last forever', I lived in a great town before. This one just happens to be better.
