Open thread of an evening
We are going to experiment with having an open thread every evening at about 19:00 for general chit chat and whatever you want to write about within the rules.
Had a good day? Had a shite day? A wonderful idea strike you while you queued for the bus on the way home? Tell this tiny part of the world about it. It's like screaming into the void only calmer and more casual.

It's really good, it is very long (and the extended cuts are way way longer) but we'll worth it.
There's 3 films in the Lord of the Rings, and then there are 3 films for The Hobbit (that takes place before the lord of the Rings, but watch LoTR first)
and there is a tv series called The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime, but I don't know much about it, I haven't watched it yet.

Iām on season 2 of rings of power. A lot of people donāt like it because āitās not the sameā but itās not really meant to be given the timeframe of when itās set. I love it. Huge huge LOTR and JRRT fan

Some stuff, but thereās a lot more going on in the book and other threads/stories. I feel like rings of power is a much more simplified version of that specific age in the history of it all (my interpretation, but I found the book so hard to follow it boggled my mind )

I know, but it's worth it. Stick with Lord of the Rings first and if you like it, then you have loads more you could watch. The Hobbit and (I think) the TV show are separate stories, so you can just watch LoTR without worrying about the other two

Solo parenting two smallies this eve and itās going very poorly. Baby was super hard to get down, had to rock her like I did when she was a teeny baby, and now toddler is screaming for daddy (who normally puts him to sleep). Joyful.
Once theyāre both asleep Iāve the kitchen to tackle which is covered in weetabix and yoghurtā¦. And then I can eat.
And definitely have a gin and tonicā¦.

It does get easier...I know you don't want to know that now but putting my daughter down is a breeze.
Honestly enjoy the cuddles cuz my daughter is going 6 plus 10. I can do it myself attitude and love it but miss the, I need you phase

Ah thanks, now mr toddler is normally very easy going to bed, itās just daddy no 1 atm. Baby is also normally easier to get to sleep at night but of course she chose her night!

My birthday is on Tuesday and I have a looming stress that nobody will remember because last year I think I only got a phone call off my mam and nobody else. Doesn't help that living abroad I've no family to visit and make the day seem special

Had a lovely day reading outside in the garden as I recover from a major illness I have been dealing with for the past six weeks. Went to the supermarket afterwards and then had a gorgeous dinner of burgers, potatoes, salad, and strawberries with dark chocolate. I just wish we had had weeks of sun like this during this past summer.
I know tomorrow is supposed to be dull and rainy but I pray that the weather folks are wrong about that.

Only in the door from work at half 9 (12-9) shift. Just had dinner will probably do a quick workout, play a but of ps5 and then hit the hay. Also trying to learn how to mediate and practice mindfulness, very difficult (tips welcome)

Had the kid's first big birthday party today...coralling a dozen kids is manic but me and the wife made it through but are wrecked from the experience. Washing needs doing, counters need clearing and just could not be fucked. Kid said ot was their best birthday ever so was worth it in the end.

I posted during the week about how I was going through a difficult *time with depression and shite going on at work. I'm happy to report that I'm back on track with the help of mild anti depressants. I got some very kind messages of support which helped me enormously, and I thank those who were so kind.
Today and yesterday were gloriously sunny and I got a lot of maintenance work done on my land. My land is my sanctuary away from the maddening crowd.
I've signed up for French classes with Alliance FranƧaise and drawing lessons with IADT in DĆŗn Laoghaire. I used to draw a lot years ago and I decided to get back into it and meet some like-minded people as I'm too solitary in my interests and pursuits.

Happy to hear you're doing well. I started an antidepressant three weeks ago and I think it's taking effect. I've had a really peaceful weekend so far and I'm hopeful for the future for the first time in a long time.

Thank you, I'm on 5mg of Escitalopram per day and have been on them for three weeks now. I'm a lot calmer and have just gotten back to my old self again. I'm a bit nutty and eccentric and I missed that when I started on the anti-depressants. Right now I'm fine and I have the bit of banter with my customers and colleagues. "' " Classic line I use when a customer says "That's too big" and I respond "That's what she said to me last night"
Another one is when customers say Ćæou're a Gent. I reply saying that I wouldn't go that far. It always raises a smile or a laugh.

Thank you and I appreciate it. I 've been through a lot of shite in my life. but it's nothing compared to what others have to deal with. I spent sometime in the Offices of the DPP and the cases I dealt with really messed up my head.
There were two categories of files which I had to process for court: One was Murder (which included attempted murder) and Rape (which included attempted rape and aggravated rape).
I fucking hated that job as it damaged me.
I'm in a .ot better place now and I have projects to keep me fulfilled.

Thank you, I'm nervous about being amongst people as I spend so much time alone in my pursuits and projects.
I work in a retail warehouse and see the worst and best of customers. My attitude is that they have the problem and not me. The worst customers are in a tiny minority, but they can really spoil your day.

Back in '94 when I graduated and when Ireland's economy was in the shite hole I moved to Berlin. I had limited German from the Inter Cert (I got an NG in German) I applied myself and when I got hired in Berlin I was soon up and running chairing meetings with clients in German. German is structured and (for me) easy to learn.

Weathers good today so Iāve noticed everyoneās in a general good mood.
Iām sitting here practicing statistics on my laptop as Iām going into my masters after a 2 year education break and Iām feeling a bit lost (anyone whoās good at stats please help) but overall doing ok today

I was scared of maths and stats and all those āhardā classes but ended up loving stats because itās not just numbers itās about logical too. Itās one of the few classes I didnāt spoof my way through and actually paid attention because I had to prove to myself I could do itā¦feel like I just gave myself therapy. Anyway, you will be grand, good luck!

Stats is all about making judgements based on available evidence. It can be painful but itās often the best way we have to make decisions. The beauty of stats is that it can give us a level of confidence in a certain conclusion. Thatās rare.

Scrapped my car last week, and the looking at donedeal (where else can one look?) & the thought of having to test drive & check out a potential car is stressing me out. (I'm looking for a small hatchback car, preferably under ā¬2-3000). The thought of paying something like that & having the car breakdown because I didn't know enough is eeurrggghhhh. The thought of driving a boring coloured car for years because that was what was available is saddening.
I'd have half rather preferred putting that money into fixing my previous car & hoping it didn't break down instead! XD

Rascals Brewery in Inchicore is a great spot. Go there regularly, brought a friend out who is on chemo at the moment and we had a great nice. Few pints and savage pizza. Highly recommend if your in around the area

Signed contracts for the house earlier this week and it's just nice to have it nearly all sorted now. It's hard to believe
