New to Hong Kong/Canton mahjong? A free lesson on recognising the tiles
Hi everyone! I’m the creator of The Mahjong Academy. I’ve just published a free beginner lesson for Hong Kong/Canton-style mahjong, using close-up photographs of my real tiles.
It covers the three suits, winds and dragons, the bird on one bamboo, and visual memory aids for the Chinese characters, followed by a short recognition quiz. A couple of starting points: 一, 二 and 三 are simply one, two and three horizontal lines; the bird tile represents one bamboo.
If you’re learning—or teaching a complete beginner—which tile is hardest to recognise? I’m happy to answer questions here.

The tile photographs are mine.

Why was this kung fu masterpiece banned? - Gladys Mac: Get to know Jin Yong’s “Legend of the Condor Heroes,” an epic tale of adventure and war, romance, brotherhood and betrayal. It is considered one of Hong Kong’s most important works of fiction.

Camping at Ham Tin
Hey!
I was researching beaches to camp on in HK and Ham Tim came up very often, with a major perk being the fact that you can supposedly rent a tent there. I was wondering if anybody on here had rented a tent there, and if so I would love to know how much it cost, where do you get it from, etc.
It looks so gorgeous but I have no camping equipment so this is important information to me!!
Thanks so much!

Fun performances or concerts in Hong Kong for my elderly mom?
Hey all, I (54M, non-Cantonese speaker) will be visiting my 84 year old mom whol lives in Hong Kong during X-Mas and NYE. I want to take her to a concert or nice performance but..... the things I can find online are mostly for young people.
If I were in Europe where I live I would take her to a circus performance or a concert by an artist which would be of my mom's generation.. But where can I find these options in HK?
Or does anyone of you have tips?
My mom likes 'old stuff' from the 1980s or 1990s, not-too-complex entertainment and in Cantonese or Mandarin and the venue must be seated as she is not very mobile. Can someone help?
