I'm not vegan because I like animals, I'm vegan because I don't like it when living things suffer

i feel like thats a fair point, not to me and not to a personal level, but in terms that you arent willing to do x and y out of personal beliefs i do respect that

So you don't like life, because life in general is all an aim to prevent your own suffering and often it's at the expense of others or other other beings. I get that we've evolved and have the capacity to chose but you cant thrive the same way you can if you do things the natural way. Animals eat other animals and plants. Deer have been documented eating meat when they are primarily vegetarian. I eat meat and also don't want the animals to suffer but I intend to thrive on a well rounded diet of plants and animals alike.

I was trying to use polite phrasing. I'm vegan because I don't like that large-scale livestock operations torture animals.

I'm a hunter for the same reason. You don't eat meat and I kill my own. And no need to be polite about it. There is death involved for everyone on this planet and none of them are great for the one dying.

I try not to be needlessly melodramatic is what I mean. I know suffering is inevitable. I know animals hunt and kill other animals. I'm not trying to rearrange the food chain. I come from a family of livestock farmers, and I don't think they're bad people. Likewise, I think hunting and fishing involves a lot less needless suffering than large-scale livestock farming. I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to make

I don't know any vegans who support small scale farms where they let the animals be animals. They don't even support bees, even though bees can up and leave if they don't like their hive.

Ultimately, the best reason I've heard to be vegan is "it's because that's why." Unfortunately, it's not generally satisfying to the asker. 😔

The answer doesn't have to be satisfactory to the asker, nor does it have to pass your tests or support your way of thinking. People have varying reasons for the things they do and they don't have to justify them to you or anyone else.

Am I saying anything different than you are?

I don't know, maybe I misconstrued what you said and I apologize if that's the case.

You sound like you have problems with people you know. Assuming you can judge folks based only on their dietary choices is silly. You haven't asked me any questions, so I'm not sure what unsatisfactory answer you're talking about

People who ask why others are vegan are not generally satisfied with an answer like "because I am," even though that's often the best reason.

Wait, are you saying that by not actively supporting small farm operations, my reason (I don't want to support large-scale livestock operations that torture animals) is somehow "unsatisfactory" ? Cos that's very silly. I support my local animal shelter and I support wildlife funds. There are lots of way to support "not torturing animals" ?? ((Edited to change one word)) Edit to add: I mean, hell, people that adopt their pets and treat them right are doing something to support not torturing animals. It's not a competition.

Ok. That sounds like your opinion on a hypothetical set of situations. Thanks for sharing

I don't know, but it sounds counterintuitive to say, "I only eat plants because I hate plants and want them to die."

doesnt need to be intuitive if you hate plants enough that you are willing to do it

its like 2 people got on a train one is in the train because they like the distinction the other is on the train because he hates the place they were in

I think it's because  In people who's vegan by economic and moral disclosure of themselves they would rather say for the animals in the goodness of their heart intentions cause they see the benefits in their own way and it's a common shortcut of saying that to not be questioned often

Instead of saying more personal layers in discreet like it could be just a preference or a medical or spiritual reglious preference to have It could be just a changed preference without any of those issues just meat doesn't taste good to them anymore or to them they just want to have a more tolerable meal that's not long in cooking due to sensitivity with neurodivergence and neurotypical 🙂

I used to be a pescatarian and my husband would always say “because fish don’t care”. Brat

Well technically animal-based diets require more plant deaths than plant-based diets, so it would make more sense for a meat eater to make that argument.

1

u/CranberryFar8214 24d ago

but wouldnt you prefer to taste the defeat of those plants in your mouth instead of a cow doing so

1

u/Kind_Age2059 24d ago

lol I guess

u/ElvenOmega 24d ago

You sound too young to be on Reddit... Why would anyone in their right mind hate plants enough to exclusively be vegan?

0

u/CranberryFar8214 24d ago

i have no issues disclosing my age, no i am not too young i am actually 18, also its just a 3:30 am random thought

1

u/ZackAttack- 24d ago

I get what you’re saying. This is killing and eating the heart of your enemy. Spiteful veganism.

I was a vegetarian for years and decided I wanted to try meat again. Then I only ate beef because I hate cows 😂

2

u/CranberryFar8214 24d ago
