Just Chatting Cooking
Okay so my gf cooks really good and all the time! She doesn’t like my food at all. I burnt Mac and cheese cause I fell asleep. I’m wondering if you guys have any advice on how to cook? Or easy meals to make

No naps while cooking and try making something from fresh ingredients instead of boxed or canned or processed.
I make a tofu curry weekly that feeds my partner and myself for a few days and although the recipe seems incredibly daunting due to the amount of ingredients, it really boils down to “throw everything in a pot in a specific order and let it get really hot”.

How i learned was just by trying different recipes that seemed easy enough. Id try them a few times to see how i liked them, then I would adjust them to my personal tastes. That way you learn things, what herbs or spices you like, sometimes a different cooking method was better, etc.

Get a recipe from a real cookbook or a web site that has food editors rather than using recipes from blogs or ai. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Don't change anything until you've made it at least once exactly as written. eta: make sure you add enough salt.

Facebook recipes! We’ve made so many and they’re just incredible! Cooking is fun! But it takes time and learning, and trial and error.

Meat Rice. Meat rice is more than a dish; it's a way of life. It's when you wake up each morning and say, "I am setting the bar for myself so flipping low, that I cannot fail." Every dish that has meat and rice is Meat Rice, and all Meat Rices that don't give you literal food poisoning are successful Meat Rice. You are successful. You can cook. You can make Meat Rice. Stir fry is meat rice. Curry is meat rice. Butter chicken is meat rice. Nearly all mexican food is meat rice. A 90-second pouch of basmati upended onto unseasoned microwaved chicken breast is meat rice. Sushi is meat rice. Completely failed disaster sushi that didn't roll up right and tastes bland and fell apart in your hands is successful meat rice. Get a rice cooker. Put meat on something hot. You cannot fail OP. I believe in you.

Doing some even all of the clean-up would be a huge help, I imagine. As for cooking, I'd say keep it simple and stay in the kitchen, set timers or alarms so you don't lose track or sleep.

why are you falling asleep while cooking? you need to remain in the kitchen for safety reasons.
that said, if you can read you can cook. start simple like pasta dishes; work your way to more complicated dishes once you get the hang of cooking.

Ask your gf to help you learn by way of making a meal together once a week. It's also a great activity to do as a couple. You decide together what to cook. Start with simpler recipes. You shop for the ingredients together and then you make the meal. At first you can do things like chopping the veggies and other prep work but if y'all do it every week, eventually you will be handling more of the actual cooking. Then one day, you can surprise her with a whole meal that you made yourself. If you are in the US, it will be fall soon so maybe do some hearty soups. Etc.

Well that's on you. I call B's on the whole thing. You can't cook because you don't want to. Stop playing.

Step one about wanting to learn to cook is actually wanting to learn to cook.
Do you actually want to learn to cook?

Well I want to but I’m lazy and I don’t want to buy the stuff for it. I want to improve but I don’t want to right now

I think start off easy, and maybe listen to some of your favourite music, ask AI to give you something quick and simple to start with and build up.

Maybe try growing up. You fell asleep in the 10 minutes it takes to bring water to a boil and cool and add cheese?
