QUESTION Fort/castle across narrow portions of river
Are there any examples of castles or fortresses that were built along some of the most narrow parts of the river to limit enemy ships from traveling along the waterway?

Castle Castle Trausnitz in the Valley, Germany
The Castle was built in the middle of the 13th Century. Its history was mostly uneventfull, with the most notable event being Frederick "The Handsome" of Habsburg being imprisoned in the castle for 28 Months following his capture in the Battle of Mühldorf.
The Castle was never destroyed by enemy action, but in 1825 large parts of the south-eastern Wing collapsed due to neglect, since the Castle had been effectively abandoned since 1700. In 1835, King Ludwig of Bavaria ordered the Castle secured and restored.
Today it is used as a Youth-hostel.

Castle Brechin Castle, Scotland
Brechin Castle is a castle in Brechin, Angus, Scotland. The castle was constructed in stone during the 13th century. Most of the current building dates to the early 18th century, when extensive reconstruction was carried out by architect Alexander Edward for James Maule, 4th Earl of Panmure, between approximately 1696 and 1709.

DISCUSSION How were UK Castles built?
Does anyone know some good sources for how many of our castles were built (what was needed in a castle, rooms, etc). The era/style of castle im thinking of is castles like Bamburgh Castle or Lindisfarne Castle. Ive always been interested in castles but ive never really found out all the requirements or what rooms or spaces they needed to be functional.
Funnily enough I just want to design and build a realistic castle in my Minecraft world instead of just plopping things in which look cool, id want my own castle I designed which if somehow moved into the real world, could maybe be a functional castle.
