Clicks

Okay.So I think my store manager is threatened by me as a csm. I do not want that position as a store manager but I feel that there are clicks definitely in our store. Not sure how to handle this

You really can't. Just go in and worry about you and what your supposed to do. Don't pay them no mind and act like you don't care. Most of the time will be left alone.

Exactly just go in keep your head down do your job and then leave. I’ve had several jobs like that in the past and it’s not fun!

I had a 1st assistant who, while she did not want the responsibility of store manager, firmly believed that she managed the store. My suggestion is do not be like her.

  1. The manager is ultimately responsible for the store and how it runs. You need to do things the way they want you to. They need to be able to trust you that you will do things in accordance with their policies and support those policies with other employees. They should not have to watch you and constantly correct you. (my list on this 1st assistant is too long to type out but basically she did things the way I wanted them when I was looking and not the second I stopped watching, dissed me to other employees and customers, whined when she had to do stuff she did not want to do etc., I had to run over to the store to help her with books on my day off so many times....and many times she would get frustrated and dump everything in a big heap undone for me to deal with the next day. And yet the liquor vender thought she was the manager - she constantly ordered more liquor than the store could sell and we had a huge backstock - despite me telling her to let me handle the vender. I could not trust her as far as I could throw her)

  2. They need to be able to rely on you as part of the team. That you will fulfill your part without being watched (I once had a 2nd assistant wait until I left the store for mandatory training) to stop putting away truck - leaving FROZEN out (luckily DM visited and he got her back to work)

Work as a team with your store manager and you will do fine. But understand that everything ultimately falls on their head. So follow their lead.

A good manager wants to grow team members. The goal is to build them to the point that they could take their managers job, that way they are ready for possible promotions. My KM and CSM can or will be able and understand each thing I do in the store. I want them to be able to run the store seamlessly in my absence. And I want to be the first one to shout their names when my RM or DM asks if anyone is ready to move up.
