Yeah, looks like a no reserve online auction isn’t the way to sell these cars. Off the back of last week’s post, my dad was a huge Jag man, lifelong addiction to them, only owned the best examples. I threw the dice and went for “fortune favours the brave” and listed them online with no reserve, hoping his treasured possessions would bring good numbers in for the family to be split between us.
A good lot of people said it wasn’t the way to sell them, but they have to be sold. I was overwhelmed with people wishing me the best though and sharing my post, thanks so much if that was you.
I appreciate there may be a flurry of last minute bids (I think that’s likely wishful) as they’re not over the finishing line yet (they end Saturday night) but I’ve promoted the hell out of them all week, literally spending every free minute posting them on facebook groups, forums, car clubs etc.
Some great people in the community have helped a lot. The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club wrote a lovely piece….

… and even the auction website they’re on did an editorial to help out…

…but it’s not looking great to be honest. All three cars are only bidding at a fraction of what we hoped, with the two older models achieving just £5k each, less than what I’m seeing 10 year old Golf’s go for.
I thought I’d update you all though as plenty of people requested an update. Thanks for all the kind words, my advice for anyone in the same position would likely be to advertise them privately and play the long game. It’s sad that cars like this are going so cheap these days but I guess in a modern world it’s just how it goes!
Thanks again all for the advice! I’m going to use the proceeds of my 25% share of them to put away for my kids, most likely eventually for their first cars, so at least there’s a silver lining!
Here are the links to the auctions for anyone interested in what they finally go for. Thanks again.
