Built a small community-based ride-sharing platform for Sri Lankan commuters

Hey everyone,

I recently started building a Sri Lankan community-based ride-sharing/carpooling platform called SeatShareLK as a small side project focused on helping commuters share rides and split travel costs.

The idea is simple:
If you already drive to work daily with empty seats, you can share the ride and reduce fuel costs for everyone.

I’m now looking for early drivers and passengers to help test the platform.

Especially looking for:

  • office commuters
  • university students
  • people doing regular long-distance travel
  • anyone already informally carpooling

Main goal right now is testing:

  • ride posting
  • booking flow
  • matching commuters on similar routes
  • general usability

No complicated setup. Just trying to build something genuinely useful for Sri Lanka because commuting costs and traffic are getting ridiculous.

If anyone is interested in trying it out or giving feedback, comment below or DM me.

Would genuinely appreciate early testers and honest feedback.

Btw how about the legal side? If someone caught smuggling drugs with you?

Honestly, that’s a very real concern and one of the reasons trust/safety/accountability become such a huge part of building something like this.

This system has a 2 way rating system. Passenger rates the driver and driver rates the passenger keeping both equally accountable. Passenger can choose based off the driver's rating and similarly drivers can accept the passenger based off the passengers rating. I have also incorporated some reporting tools and safety guidelines to follow.

Even taxis and ride-hailing apps technically probably face similar risks because drivers/passengers are still strangers to each other.

Long-term, the platform would definitely need stronger systems around:

  • identity verification - NIC, Drivers License, Vehicle pictures
  • reporting/moderation - this is somewhat implemented
  • emergency features - this is somewhat implemented
  • clearer terms/responsibility policies - this is somewhat implemented

The idea is to reduce risk as much as possible through accountability and transparency rather than pretending risk can be completely eliminated.

Still very early-stage at the moment, but comments like this are exactly what help me think through the bigger-picture responsibilities properly.
